Bristol Palin proves abstinence doesn't pay?

The Palin family seem to have a gift for turning lemons into lemonade - or more precisely, into cold hard cash.
Yesterday we learned that Bristol Palin, Sarah's single mom daughter, made an absolute fortune representing the Candie Foundation - a group that promotes sexual abstinence to teenagers.
Palin's 2009 tax return from the group were reported on by several media organizations - and now we know the going rate for an abstinence promoter these days: $262,000.
That's enough to make other teens consider following her do what I do, not what I say trajectory.
Palin is no longer in a relationship with her child's father, Levi Johnston.
Palin's work for the Candie Foundation included giving speeches and appearing on television shows and in advertisements to raise awareness about the potential perils of teenage pregnancy.
"If I can prevent even one girl from getting pregnant, I will feel a sense of accomplishment,"she told the press.
But then there's the contradictory message of how much she made lamenting her own decisions. It's the mixed message that has critics chattering.

"Anything worth doing is worth doing for money ..." - William Gates (aka Alfred E. Newman) = and I still find it as quite amusing that you are being paid to do hatchet jobs on relatively unknown characters associated with the outspoken on the right. Jealous?

I went to the foundations website. "We know that Ms. Palin's work has had a positive effect on teens. In a recent independent national survey of 1,000 teens that compared a Bristol Palin PSA with those of nother national teen pregnancy organization that use non-famous teens, more than twice as many teens (57% vs. 27%) said Bristol's PSA "got my attention", three times as many (41% vs. 11%) said it was "powerful", and more than twice as many (38% vs. 16%) said it was "memorable"

the candie foundation gave $262,000 to a single teenage mother to instruct others "not as I do but as I say"and according to there financial statement they(candie) spent in one year $35,000 on there charity. Is this organisation just a right wing front for something else?.

Why are you so interested in what Bristol Palin does or doesn't do? She was an unwed teenager that didn't have an abortion and is raising her child and is not on the U.S. welfare rolls. You need to devote a column about her activities on a website for Irish and Americans with Irish ancestry because...????

So what? Is it taxpayer money ? Michelle Obama made hundreds of thousands working for a hospital that doubled her salary when Obama got elected to the Senate. Chelsea Clinton went right from college to one of those evil hedge funds making 150 K a year. Better than her classmates I'll bet. But, as I said, who cares ? Not taxpayer money. We might better be looking at all those people working for congress people and the administration who are paid with taxpayer money. And, that includes all parties and all administrations.

Cahir, slow day at the presses? Bristol is a good dancer too, better than you.

@jdi2269... who do you suppose ghost wrote for President Obama then(or are you talking about a former President who might better fit your angry and hateful 'description')? And while I am not a fan of either of the Palin women it seems that they have found a niche market in the american public who are ready to throw money at them which is astounding to say the least!

CAHIR IS PROBABLY THE MOST IGNORANT WRITER FOR IRISH CENTRAL! HAS HE LOOKED AT HOW MUCH OUR IGNORANT PRESIDENT MADE OFF BOOKS HE DIDN'T EVEN WRITE????
jamthecat | Apr 07, 2011, 12:36 PM EDT
Yeah, I got yer family values, right here. An' what's even better? This "paragon of virtue" got Candi to spend twice as much on her, alone, as they did on ALL their other programs. Yeah, talk about lemonade made with that fake sugar junk. Fuhggedaboudit.

Here's another one, making money for doing and knowing absolutely nothing worthwhile. Sadly, too many people keep paying her for her lack of usefulness.
ciarrai | Apr 07, 2011, 10:47 AM EDT
She has taken up the family business: separating fools from their money. Wow, we are surprised?
eileenkny | Apr 07, 2011, 10:16 AM EDT
Like Paris Hilton, she's only famous for her last name. Maybe we'll see a sex tape from her too. Abstinence after the fact is like leftover Thanksgiving turkey.
LinLinisme | Apr 07, 2011, 10:10 AM EDT
Disgusting, What did she ever do but get pregnant.
trspit80 | Apr 07, 2011, 10:09 AM EDT
You're such a dolt. Abstinence is still the only 100% way to ensure you don't get pregnant. It WORKS 100% of the time...if you practice it. Now, for who's the authority on teen pregnancy: is it YOU Mr. O'Doherty? Or is it a teenaged girl who has experienced it and is willing to say, "it ain't a good thing and don't do it.". I doubt you've ever been pregnant and I'm beginning to doubt you've ever been a teen. So, until you've been there and done that, I suggest you stick to your own knittin' and write about subjects to which you are more attuned.
