Bill O'Reilly disrespects the President of the United States
By: Cahir O'Doherty | Published Wednesday, February 9, 2011, 9:35 AM | Updated Friday, September 9, 2011, 10:04 PM
Prior to the Superbowl, Fox News' Bill O'Reilly staged an interview with President Obama that is attracting increasing comment for its tone rather than its content.
It wasn't the lively exchange of political views that distinguished the exchange.
The fact is that O'Reilly rudely interrupted the President no less than 48 times (in the process introducing himself into the national conversation) and setting a new benchmark for coarse incivility and disrespect toward the Commander in Chief.
How does this unchecked belligerence look to the nation and the world? Remember President Obama was elected by the American people by historic margins. O'Reilly, who claims he is a patriot, should have contemplated the implications of that before launching his ignorant salvos.
To see the President spoken to in such a relentlessly condescending manner by O'Reilly, when Obama has made every effort to change the political tone and reach across the aisle in Washington, was nauseating.
You must of been watching something different then us Americans, because he was very respectful of the president.....

O'Reilly is an embarassment....President Obama deserves the respect of his office. He is just trying to derail anything Obama says.

What bothered me about O'Reilly was his too-familiar way of talking with the President, as if he were talking with a visitor (Obama) in his (O'Reilly) living room on a casual visit. No formality whatsoever, a lack of respectful distance as he questioned him.
He could have asked the same questions in a different manner, with more respectful or respectful use of language, tone and physical posture.
Arrogant, yes, but, more importantly, lacking in respect for the man who is sitting as President.
No matter who is President, whether it be Bush or Obama, it is important to remember that this man sits in a world respected office and should be treated with DIGNITY. O'Reilly did not do that and it was very upsetting to watch for that reason.

Made "every effort to reach across the aisles '?This president has deliberately failed his country in just about every category one could mention. He has also lied to the nation - and himself - repeatedly. He should be made to answer to the American people without the liberal media shoring him up at every opportunity. Let's face it, without the media, he couldn't have been elected. The sad part is that the media has to keep backing him because they stans tro lose face if he loses the support of the uneducated.

Obama ate O'Reilly for lunch....he was calm, cool, collected and answered questions in smooth, measured tones, while O'Reilly was angry, cynical and looked like he wanted to scream and jump out of his chair. I hope a lot of people watched this and were scared by how unhinged O'Reilly seemed to be.

Cahir, there may be a vacancy over at MSNBC. Go for it!
You're in!
McNabb1966 | Feb 09, 2011, 08:16 PM EST
This is the standard bogus complaint from the Left every time they get a reminder of who has the clout and who doesn't. There's a reason why Obama doesn't give interviews to MSNBC...he wants the largest audience possible and he knows that MSNBC can't deliver. Furthermore, he's probably embarrassed to be on set with the wingnuts they hire over there. So, once again, he turns to FOX. That stings, doesn't wingnuts? lol And Obama gets "interrupted" because he insists on filibustering and attempting to limit questions by extending his answers. So anybody who interviews him must at some point cut him off or else he'll spend the entire allotted time answering one question. It's a tactic he uses constantly. If he doesn't want to answer questions then he shouldn't agree to give the interview. But since he wants to take advantage of FOX's clout, he does interviews. And when he sits down to an interview he needs to be willing to answer questions without monopolizing the time. Otherwise, it's merely yet another pointless speech. THAT'S the reality, Cahir. Why is it so hard for you?
maloney | Feb 09, 2011, 06:08 PM EST
Cahir,,you've done a fine job of repeating MSNBC's take on the interview. What would you be writing had O'Reilly called obama on the several lies obama told during the interview? The Potus like all politicians are elected to serve the people not dictate to them or call a portion of legal citizens enemies. This goes for Dems & Repubs alike. If Bill had kissed his arse you would be saying he didn't do it good enough.
pacifist | Feb 09, 2011, 03:25 PM EST
It was hard to judge since the bell indicating and interjection/interruption/ by Bill O'Reilly doesn't allow people to clearly hear what is going on. Was this just a segment from a longer interview or was it meant to be a brief one? If it was the latter the Bill O'Reilly was entitled to put as many questions as he wanted, but clearly President Obama should have been given time to reply - but quickly. Overall I think President Obama displayed a remarkable degree of calm when under the presssure of so many quickfire question and an admirable level of courtesy toward Bill O'Reilly. But, Bushotheill, three or four years ago a journalist from Irish TV interniewed the last President Bush and put to him tough question on the invasion of Iraq, but it taken none to kindly by the Bush administration that he would be asked pertinent questions in relation to the decision to invade Iraq. What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander!

0 disrespects the Office of the Presidency by not producing his BC to prove he is eligible. O'Reilly doesn't interrupt guests unless they are not being truthful or are veering off on a memorized speech.

O'Reilly has the right to ask any question he likes. He does not have the right to sit there like a self-satisfied Oompa Loompa and be rude, interrupt, sneer or belittle the Commander in Chief of the United States. Bushothehill needs to learn that common respect is due to the office of Democratic presidents as well as Republican ones.

Are you fr real O'Doherty? Don'tyou get it? O'Reilly is a top notch political commentator and moderator. Obama, if permitted would have taken up the alloted time to answer one question if O'R had permitted him to bloviate. The ever present crutch tele-prompter was absent, therefore Obama had to be steered to respond to the questions. Even Obama felt he was treated fairly by Fox. Go back to drinking your cool-aid, O'Doherty!
