It's not every day that Bill O'Reilly is called a 'pinhead' to his face, but today - playing off the title of his new book "Pinheads and Patriots" — that's exactly what co-hosts Joy Behar and Barbara Walters did on the set of their ABC hit chat show "The View".
Getting into a heated argument about the proposed Islamic center which will be located two blocks from Ground Zero in Manhattan, the Irish American pundit thundered that 70% of Americans did not want it to be built there.
And then, in a moment that saw all hell to break loose, O'Reilly claimed that President Obama's popularity has declined due to his position on the proposed mosque, saying that the majority of Americans don't support it because "Muslims killed us on 9/11."
For Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg this claim, that Muslims rather than Al Quaeda extremists attacked the twin towers, was a bridge too far and they walked off the set in disgust.
After the the two co-presenters swept off, broadcasting legend Barbara Walters criticized their actions and claimed that they should have been able to have a rational discussion without leaving, but then in her next breath she gave O'Reilly a tongue lashing, demanding that he apologize to Muslims for lumping them in with a core of hardened extremists. Begrudgingly, O'Reilly complied.
Then, bizarrely, Elisabeth Hasselbeck defended O'Reilly by claiming that it was really President Obama who was to blame for the confusion over who attacked us on 9/11 - Muslims or extremists. Hasselbeck didn't offer a complex reason for why she held this opinion.
You can catch the morning mayhem in all its glory below:

Monsoonman | Oct 18, 2010, 07:56 PM EDT
Ah Lad, it brings a tear to me eye! Could you make those holes in one consecutive? TIA!
seanomelbourne | Oct 18, 2010, 06:38 PM EDT
I'll appear to you on the golf course and ensure you'll have a couple of "hole in one's"
Monsoonman | Oct 18, 2010, 11:57 AM EDT
...Or you can say there ain't no heaven, but you pray there ain't no hell. But you'll never know by living, only your dying will tell...We'll have a seance after you depart Lad, let us know.
seanomelbourne | Oct 17, 2010, 06:52 PM EDT
Interesting question Mman. Maybe I'd have a St.Augustine moment "Lately have I loved thee Lord"
Monsoonman | Oct 17, 2010, 01:44 PM EDT
Sean Lad, a question for you: If you were one of the 30 Chilean miners trapped underground for 60 days, not knowing if you would ever get out alive. Do you think you would have convinced the rest of your mates to become atheists, or do you think you would have gone along to get along and experienced a "conversion"? Jes axin'

at leaset barbara walters remained calm and continued the dialogue...the other two are loud mouth freaks :0
seanomelbourne | Oct 16, 2010, 09:43 PM EDT
The view is "a waste of time" and O'reilly is not is that not an oxymoron.
allentown | Oct 16, 2010, 04:15 PM EDT
Am I wrong or did the audience cheer O'Reilly when Behar and Goldberg walk off the stage? Am I wrong or did the Japanese attack us on December 7th, or were they Japanese extremists?
Searlit | Oct 16, 2010, 08:40 AM EDT
Pittsburghkid, a lot of us have simply stopped watching TV. There is just so much junk on it. There are some shows worth watching, but they are few and far between. I don't watch either of the shows mentioned. I like to think for myself.
msdsandpiper | Oct 16, 2010, 01:04 AM EDT
I think viewing "The View" is a waste of one's time. I value what Bill O'Reilly has to say and will look forward to seeing him, again. But, "The View" will never warrant my attention. In my opinion; that show is an insult to intelligence.
Pittsburghkid | Oct 15, 2010, 11:59 PM EDT
I do not think, that you completely understand Americans. ABC is a dying network. O'Reilly has a very popular Prime Time TV show on Fox. Fox has more viewers. It is not bizarre, that Hasselbeck defended O'Reilly. Hasselbeck is a Conservative. The View keeps Hasselbeck to keep the show from going in a leftward or concentric circle. Actually the View is a bunch of post menopausal women off the meds. O'Reilly is very intelligent, and popular. The witch except Hasselbeck are jealious.
KMcSinger | Oct 15, 2010, 11:16 PM EDT
Ha ha! I love the View. It's hilarious how they all jabber at the same time. Barbara Walters is truly brilliant though.
willieboy | Oct 15, 2010, 07:24 PM EDT
Sometimes O'Reilly goes off the deep end. This was not one. The View? Would this piece of crap even be on TV if it were not Barbara Walters baby???
maloney | Oct 15, 2010, 05:38 PM EDT
The comment was made that muslims were also killed in the towers like that makes a difference. muslims have been killing each other and anyone else they came in contact with since the beginning of time. muslims would kill all you muslim lovers given a chance. I have seen several imams say there is no such thing as moderate muslims. I will take them at their word, as should you. Just when was it that the Irish & Irish Americans became such whining thin skinned female dogs?
jflanagan | Oct 15, 2010, 02:17 PM EDT
Just so it is clear, I'm not an O'Reilly fan and I don't hate anyone but do not see any reason to trust the Muslims. They are free to live here and anywhere they wish but when they drive out Christians from Lebanon, kill christians in Sudan, stone women, cut off hands, behead people and, because a kook two bit preacher threatens to burn Korans, threaten all Americans with death, don't ask me to trust them. I'll tolerate them but since 343 of my fellow firefighters were killed by Muslim extremists, who seem to be tolerated if not encouraged by Islamic leaders, don't give me that politically correct bull.
jflanagan | Oct 15, 2010, 02:07 PM EDT
I wonder if they would have walked out if he complained that the Muslim Clerics that run Iran sentence women to death by stoning, that the Northern Sudan Muslims rape, kill and torture the Southern Sudan Christians or that Islamic Sharia law allows a Pakistan Muslim family to cut off a woman's nose and ears (Time Magazine story a few weeks back)? When the Moderate Muslims (if they do exist) shout come out with strong condemnation of these barbaric Muslim actions, maybe we'll believe most are peaceful, civilized people. I very little evidence of that. Even in this country a Muslim father "honor" killed two daughters for dating non-Islamic boys and his family continues to hide him from the authorities. It was Muslims flying the planes, not Cahtolics, Jews, Atheists or other religions, so saying Muslims killed us was not a lie. He should have added extremists or terrorists but that wasn't really necessary.
hancock | Oct 15, 2010, 01:43 PM EDT
The IRA were a national group not a religous one. What percent of the Muslim world support Al Qaeda? I bet it isn't a small slither.
irishfez | Oct 15, 2010, 01:07 PM EDT
I can't believe the amount of idiots defending O'Reilly. Are you stupid?? He said 'muslims killed us' - such an incorrect, sweeping statement that shows his ignorance. It's like the British going around saying 'Catholics killed us'. It's just wrong, no matter what party you align yourself to or no matter how conservative you are. He is wrong and he loves stirring the pot, but why be so offensive? Why didn't he say 'a small group of extremist muslims'?
porkheaven | Oct 15, 2010, 12:21 PM EDT
I wouldn't waste my time watching those two old bimbos
hancock | Oct 15, 2010, 11:06 AM EDT
When did the Irish turn into far left lightweight crybabies?
Searlit | Oct 15, 2010, 11:05 AM EDT
This is what happens when people try to be right about something. They get all wrapped up in their own versions and overlook reality. They would rather pull out their psychological weapons against each other than to listen to each other. On the one side, 70% o f Americans polled did say they were against the location of the Mosque. On the other, the Muslim community, whose religion, I don't pretend to understand . All I know is I'm frightened by seeing women completely covered up, and by Sharia Law.
Monsoonman | Oct 15, 2010, 10:56 AM EDT
hate speech? everything is hate speech to you goo goos. We couldn't criticize obama because you would brand us as racists. We can't say that marriage should be between a man and a woman or you will call us homophobes. We can't identify the hijackers of plane loads of human beings that slammed them into buildings as muslim extremists or you will call us intolerant. We can't tell our government to defend our borders without being called racists. We can't say a word about the sacred cow unionized government workers who get paid more than the private sector and retire early in grand style at taxpayer expense without being called "insensitive".
hollabackgurl | Oct 15, 2010, 10:34 AM EDT
Joy Behar walked out on Bill O'Reilly on The View during an interview about Muslims and 9/11 becuase, she says: "I thought he was saying something that I construe as hate speech, frankly."
killowen | Oct 15, 2010, 10:17 AM EDT
Racist crazy, desperate to please his master ....
Yerffac | Oct 15, 2010, 10:11 AM EDT
Hasselbeck is a bimbo ninny.
McNamara31 | Oct 15, 2010, 10:03 AM EDT
akellyny ….I agree" I'm horrified at what America has become. It used to be a land of diversity and acceptance. It has turned into a land of hatred and non-acceptance. Sad'....I would love to see a chart that plots the rise in popularity of FOX News and then compares to the rise in intolerance and bigotry in this country.
Yerffac | Oct 15, 2010, 09:55 AM EDT
Why feature that racist o'reilly here? He's not Irish. He an hannity are a disgrace to our race--they are not Irish. Irish-Americans are a mutation.
akellyny | Oct 15, 2010, 09:47 AM EDT
Everyone that needs to group Muslims in with terrorists, I ask you - what religion do you think the IRA are? All Catholics. So does that mean all you hypochristians out there, claiming to be Catholics are IRA terrorists??? Wake up you ignorant fools. Many Muslims were killed in the twin towers that day too. It's not a mosque being built, it's a community center. What does it take for people to actually do some research and stop being so closed minded???? I'm horrified at what America has become. It used to be a land of diversity and acceptance. It has turned into a land of hatred and non-acceptance. Sad.
tomgallagher | Oct 15, 2010, 09:36 AM EDT
"The View" got exactly what they were looking for when they invited Bill O'Reilly to the show. I don't know why they were surprised.
McNamara31 | Oct 15, 2010, 08:52 AM EDT
O’Reilly doesn't make stupid mistakes like this. He knew exactly what he was doing by planting the “Muslim” answer; getting what he hoped would be the expected response, just in enough time to make the spin cycle on all the evening shows, giving his new book unlimited free advertising. Sad the girls fell for his manipulation, just as he wished.
maireadinmelb | Oct 15, 2010, 05:52 AM EDT
Well of course Elisabeth defended him! Maybe we should consult George Bush about who is at fault! Well Done Barbara Walters!!
Monsoonman | Oct 14, 2010, 11:50 PM EDT
Whoopi is a basic liberal, but has shown the capability of seeing both sides of an issue without it clouding her views. But Whoopi is black and she seems to be overly sensitive to any negative comments towards this religion that has a wide following of blacks in the US and the world. I think her race has clouded her judgment on this.
McNabb1966 | Oct 14, 2010, 10:44 PM EDT
So, tell us again, what religion do the Al Quaeda terrorist practice? Were the 9-11 mass murderers Muslims. It's a true or false question so that even Cahir can have a 50% chance of not screwing up the answer. Do they represent Islam properly? No. Do they represent the attitude of the vast majority of Muslims? I don't think so. But, sorry folks. They were were Muslims and they did it in the name of their religion. So why exactly did Whoopi and Joy stomp off their own set? Because like most Lefy wingnuts, they can't deal with reality. Whoopi is the pinhead who likes to differentiate between "rape" and "rape rape." And Joy Behar? Please... She's in a death struggle with Kathy Griffin to decide who is the world's most ridiculously obnoxious red head. Frankly, the stage was better off without them. If O'Reilly is a "pinhead" himself it's only because he wasted a day with these clowns.
hancock | Oct 14, 2010, 10:37 PM EDT
New York City is anti-mosque just like the rest of the country. Last time I checked the IRA didn't scream for Jesus, so that comparison is bullshit.
maloney | Oct 14, 2010, 10:04 PM EDT
behar, on her CNN show has said anti-Catholic & anti-Christian things many times. So you libs think it's OK for behar to rant but not OK for Bill to tell the truth about muslims. HYPOCRITES!
jotgee1 | Oct 14, 2010, 08:59 PM EDT
Well - not surprised on Joy Behar. But I am about Whoopi. I always saw Whoopi as the cool headed one who was very professional. They were both wrong. and I agree wholeheartedly with Chicago1, that you're supposed to agree with everything that Behar says, because according to her she is always right and everyone else is always wrong. I think she is an idiot and as far as I'm concerned she can keep on walking. And that is my opinion.
Chicago1 | Oct 14, 2010, 08:29 PM EDT
I see, it's called, The View, but all guests must share Whoopi/Behar's view. Whether you agree/disagree, he was their invited guest. How unprofessional to walk off in the middle of an interview.
seanomelbourne | Oct 14, 2010, 07:45 PM EDT
The pinhead had trouble hiding his anti Muslim diatribe.
hollabackgurl | Oct 14, 2010, 07:27 PM EDT
Saying 'Muslims' when you mean 'Al Quaeda' proves that O'Reilly is a race-baiter once and for all. That's like blaming all Catholics for the IRA bombing campaign. It doesn't matter that he apologized, he knew what he was doing.
maloney | Oct 14, 2010, 05:32 PM EDT
whoopi & behar show how unprofessional they are. Bill had no problem correcting muslim -vs- muslim terrorist despite cahir saying he did it begrudgingly. Cahir shows his liberal leanings rather than reporting the facts. behar (the pig) seemed amazed 70% of Americans don't want the ground zero shrine. Is NY that out of touch with the rest of the country or is behar really that stupid?
Southernpride | Oct 14, 2010, 05:19 PM EDT
Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg are way 'out there.' On drugs
irishfez | Oct 14, 2010, 04:57 PM EDT
That Elizabeth Hasselback is an idiot, from the same line of Christine O'Donnell. They come out with these 'conservative' one-liners and have no idea how to back them up or what they mean!
