Duck and roll folks, apparently the gays aren't content with ruining Christmas and the wedding announcement section of your local paper - according to Rick Perry now they're after Christianity itself.
They're waging war against it. They want to outlaw it. They want to make it illegal for you to pray. Or something.
'I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a Christian, but you don’t need to be in the pew every Sunday to know there’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school,' Perry says in his latest ad.
That's right, gay soldiers can put their lives on the line for the United States in Iraq and Afghanistan but they will apparently only do so if they receive a promise it will ruin a child's Christmas or their freedom to pray in school.
How's that for a massive international gay conspiracy?
So you better pick your side in this war of the faithful. Is your Christian faith less important to you than your fabulous Uncle Karl, say? Because you can't be a Christian and supportive of gay people, ever, obviously.
It's almost as if Rick Perry wanted to use your Christian faith for his own political ends. But that would be massively cynical and divisive, wouldn't it? I for one am astounded to learn his dog whistle ad has received a record number of dislikes on Youtube. I am also shocked by the outpouring of revulsion it seems to have generated.
The truth is, in pandering shamelessly to his fundamentalist Christian base, Perry has demonstrated why he alienates the wider American public and is unfit for national office. That's also why he will never be the GOP's candidate.
The Call:
And the response:

Texas did produce Molly Ivins and Ann Richards. Unfortunately, they are no longer with us. :(

Hey, I don't care for Rick Perry, the Dallas Cowboys or the Texas Rangers but I'm from Austin and my grandparents came across that wide river south of us.

@faberm1 - I know that at Perry's religous gathering he prayed for rain and that Texas was answered with continuing drought. I just saw on the national weather that, with him out of your state, west Texas had a very pretty rain cloud over it on the map. Maybe you should hope that he does find legitimate work elsewhere. Is Texas a "Recall" state like Wisconsin? Is Mary Richardson still available? Seriously, from one "fiscal conservative, social moderate" to another, I pray that the rain falls softly on Texas for awhile so that it has plenty of time to soak in and not turn the dry beds into raging floods! We visited the Dallas/Fort Worth area a couple of years ago and you have a beautiful state of which you can be rightously proud.

@hollabackgurl - Or wear Keith Ledger's jacket from "Brokeback Mountain!" I wonder if someone set him up in this commercial. He always seems so clueless. It's hard to believe that a POLITICIAN would not know that we can vote at 18.

Cahir, you may be Irish but you are as we Texans say a "yankee". Most of us don't like Perry. He is a warmed over Democrat, switched parties to get money. Suggest to you and others to visit here to see what Perry has done, and that is kept our business machine running not like the democrats who want to change everything.

Bashing one vulnerable segment of American society to score points with another more powerful one is an ancient GOP political tactic. It's not working now. Pery must be astonished. And if you're going to bash gays you probably shouldn't use the orchestral music of the gay, Jewish Aaron Copeland. Perry's a twit.

It's really cute to hear the avowed atheist in your second video telling us, with the voice of a prophet, "God does not believe in Rick Perry!" Proof positive that God speaks to atheists and, presumably, gays, but not to avowed Christians of the Rick Perry type who don't believe they need to listen.

faberm1, Texas is a great state! You need to give Cahir a break. Northeasterners have no idea have no idea that there is life below the Mason Dixon line, and it is much more diverse than they think. They think it looks like a Dukes of Hazzard show when actually Northerners have been moving here by the millions since the invention of air conditioning. We have the sunshine and balmy weather.

I am a Texan and I am a Christ-Follower. I vote Libertarian or Republican. I have never voted for Rick Perry for Governor, and I would never vote for him for President. He is a slick big-business Democrat who has warmed himself over as a Republican. He is a career politician who needs to quit politics and he needs to go get a job in private industry, and he needs to be quiet so he'll stop being an total embarrassment to our great state. Texans are in great part fiscal conservatives, but social moderates. He will never win our state by gay-bashing or Bible thumping. We are much more LIbertarian in our frontier psyche than most of the country understands.
