Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes feared attacks from gays

You might have missed this; according to a former managing editor at Fox News, the station chairman Roger Ailes had bullet proof glass installed in his midtown offices because he feared assassination attempts by gay activists.

The fascinating new article, which suggest Ailes gives Glen Beck a good run for his money in the bug-eyed paranoia stakes, recounts how Fox News owner Rupert Murdoch installed Ailes in the corner office on Fox’s second floor at 1211 Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan.

But the relatively exposed location made Ailes deeply uneasy. According to the article, which ran in Rolling Stone:

May 21 Doomsday leader: blame the gays

Today Harold Camping, the Gollum-eared leader of the bizarre 'May 21 - End of the World' movement, explains in the following video that the imminent Rapture is actually all gay people's fault.

That's right, God doesn't like 'them.' So, after 6,000 years, or 4.5 billion years, He's about to enact the Final Solution.

Starting tomorrow He's going to torture almost every man, woman and child on the planet for five months, before He eventually kills us all. Who knew He hated those reruns of Will and Grace that much?

Will the world end on May 21?

The English poet Phillip Larkin had a thing or two to say about death. Yes, I'm talking about global death and destruction this week, since a small, radical Christian group is anticipating it and getting miles of media coverage.

Death, Larkin wrote, is -

Donald Trump folds; won't run for president

The press is announcing this morning what most people have known for weeks: Donald Trump will not run for president.

Perhaps Barack Obama did have something to teach Trump after all: if you've auditioning for the most difficult job in the world it helps if you can bring something to the table other than a grudge about taxes.

When the president schooled Trump on what the heat of public office can feel like at the annual Washington Correspondents dinner last month, a clearly agitated Trump looked thin-skinned and tight lipped throughout his drubbing. It was the tipping point for the American public, and even Trump himself had the sense to know he would never recover from it.

Michele Bachmann to debate a high schooler?

We live in an age where potential Republican candidates for the presidency can apparently be bested by high schoolers.

If you thought Sarah Palin's deer in the headlights response to Katie Couric's questioning was a new low in national politics, and the fitness of GOP candidates, wait until you hear this.

Amy Myers, a 15 year old high school sophomore from Cherry Valley, New Jersey has challenged Minnesota Representative Michele Bachmann to a public debate on the constitution, U.S. history, and civics.

GOP: bash gays, forget economy

There's no need for the Republican party to focus on Americas economy; forget the threat of terrorism or rising education costs or the pain of high taxation.

GOP: bash gays, forget economy

There's no need for the Republican party to focus on Americas economy; forget the threat of terrorism or rising education costs or the pain of high taxation. Trust the GOP to know what's really important: gay marriage.

Obama approval now at 60 percent

Bad news for Donald Trump, Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin et al: President Barack Obama's approval rating is at its highest point in two years.

More than half of all Americans now say Obama deserves to be re-elected, according to the latest poll taken just after US forces targeted and successfully killed al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.

The presidents standing has also improved on the economy, which is certain to give the 2012 GOP field the vapors.

Time to end gay deportations

To hear some people tell it, the truly Christian thing to do with longstanding gay couples (where one is a US citizen and one is foreign born) is to cruelly separate them from each other for no good reason other than to satisfy the majority's irrational prejudice against them.

But as more and more people are agreeing, it's reprehensible to be this willfully and needlessly cruel, because it serves no good purpose, at all, and it only breaks hearts.

On Friday Attorney General Eric Holder asked the Board of Immigration Appeals to set aside their ruling deporting Irishman Paul Wilson Dorman back to Ireland under because the Defense of Marriage Act is being challenged in court and may ultimately be set aside.

Mission Accomplished - Osama Bin Laden killed

Like most people, on hearing of the death of Osama Bin Laden last night I felt curiously lighter. I wasn't gloating at the news, it was something else - it felt like a spell the city had been laboring under had finally been broken.
