Even Bill O'Reilly, in his own hapless way, got the message. 'It’s not a traditional America anymore,' he lamented, meaning that he'd just noticed that people who aren't white, wealthy wasps can also vote.
Not only that, they are voting for the other guy. You can say what you like about Republicans but you can't call them stupid.
When O'Reilly says 'traditional' he means 'white' of course. So do most of his viewers.
'It makes me wonder who my fellow citizens are. I've got to be honest, I feel like I've lost touch with what the identity of America is right now. I really do,' so said Boston Republican voter Marianne Doherty to the Washington Examiner.
I expect there'll be a lot of pearl clutching like Doherty's going on in the coming months in conservative circles.
Not everyone in Republican circles wants to rub their fingers down on the fiery braille of Tuesday election bust just yet, however. Some instead are simply seeing it as a call to arms. The candidates and policies weren't conservative enough, they cry.
On his increasingly paranoid talk show Glenn Beck observed that 'the body of America is even sicker than I thought it was' and declared that he no longer knows who Americans are.
For these people, there is no help, but it's instructive to hear them debate each other in the wilderness where their divisive, bigoted rhetoric and ideologies will always lead the GOP.
A decade in the echo chamber of Fox News and Glen Beck and Sarah Palin and Sean Hannity and evangelical political focus groups like Focus on The Family and the National Organization for Marriage have led the GOP into an anti-women, anti-gay, anti-science, anti-intellectual, mirage.
Americans don't want to live in that 'traditional' mirage. The asteroid that hit the GOP on Tuesday sent them a memo too: they're dinosaurs.
For two centuries 'traditional America' has been successfully sticking it to non-traditional America, meaning people of color and women and gays. On Tuesday the bill came due. This is the brave new nation we're leaving in.
Platitudes and scraps from the table aren't going to win you the presidency ever again, gentlemen.

Traditional to a normal person does not mean white. It means voting for the best man for the job. The Democrats have long planned to have so many people beholding to them, that with 51% of the country receiving handouts and being told the republicans will take them away, is the reason Obama won. The main st. media said the race was about the economy, but if you believe that, your as uninformed as most of the voters. Big handout receivers are blacks and hispanics. Blacks voted 93% for obama and still claim thats not a racist vote, and hispanics were 71%. The Obama administration never enforced the border laws and let hispanics walk across in droves. Thedy have bankrupted hospitals and overloaded schools, in addition to the drug smuggling and other crimes.

Three chewers to Obama ans his reelection. The American people can still recognize real value and integrity ,despite all the bluster and baloney from Fox News, deceptive ads paid for by the billionaires and millionaires.

Michaelidaho 332 electoral college votes 2,000,000 more people voted for Obama in the popular vote. The people have spoken and you're a sore loser. Those so called free market capitalists who lay off staff because Obama won are traitors and unamerican.

I think that any private business owner who says he is firirg his workers or shortening their hours just because Obama won should have his business NATIONALIZED! He has no business being a capitalist. What a bunch of sore losers. They complain about Obama being a Marxist, so show them what REAL Marxism looks like. Maybe then they will understand the word's meaning and understand how far he is from being one.

I thought I heard that Pandit of Citibank, after the board fired him, received a $6.5 Million bonus, a nice addition to the $24 Million salary he has. Average CEO salary now equals the average salary of 380 American workers. Are these CEOs going to drop everything and leave us now, before their salaries match the total pay of 500 of their workers? "The average CEO pay of companies in the S&P 500 Index rose to $12.94 million in 2011. Overall, the average level of CEO pay in the S&P 500 Index increased 13.9 percent in 2011, following a 22.8 percent increase in CEO pay in 2010." Rich white guys should have paid their taxes rather than hand $300 million dollars to Karl Rove who tossed it on a bonfire. They got .1% return on their investment. I thought you said rich white guys were smart.

Eiriamach, lets see how the most punished class of people under obama, the young black man, fares under term two. I know you are concerned about the social welfare of said group. And yes this will get worse as the Rich white guys are punished for achievement and stop producing.

michaelidaho - It just goes to show what a Billion dollars of unregistered money will do to move the electorate. I guess that next time they will pump in $2 Billion. Oh wait, there wasn't any more airtime to buy in the swing states so they couldn't run their lies more next time even if they had the money. Truth won out over big money lies this time but it did take a few bruises in the fight.

Both elections (2004 and 2012) reveal the persistence of a deeply divided electorate and the unpopularity of both Bush and Obama. However, where as Bush's popularity increased slightly from 2000 to 2004, Obama's decreased dramatically from 2008 to 2012. This election is hardly anything to be happy about, especially when Obama's victory is competing with George Bush's to be the weakest endorsement of any re-elected U.S. president.

michaelidaho - Even without the Miami-Dade total, the Phoenix and Tucson absentee and provisional ballots and the rest of the Washington State count it is at 3 million. In 2004 Bush had 3,012,166 more than Kerry although it would have been tighter without the super long lines in Ohio. Bush only got 286 electoral votes that year and as I said we Ohio voters still think he stole ours and the election. After Florida finally gets done counting, Obama will have 332 electoral votes so I'm thinking that, in the words of W., Barack will have some "capital" to spend as a result of this election. W. even thought he got capital from the 2000 election were he LOST the popular vote and only got 271 electoral votes. Talk about a squeaker. Now wouldn't it be a HOOT if the Phoenix and Tucson ballots tipped Arizona into Obama's column?
