Asteroid hits, GOP dinosaurs exposed after Obama's election victory - VIDEO

The asteroid hit, the GOP looked around, and they noticed for the first time they were dinosaurs.

Even Bill O'Reilly, in his own hapless way, got the message. 'It’s not a traditional America anymore,' he lamented, meaning that he'd just noticed that people who aren't white, wealthy wasps can also vote.

Not only that, they are voting for the other guy. You can say what you like about Republicans but you can't call them stupid.

When O'Reilly says 'traditional' he means 'white' of course. So do most of his viewers.

'It makes me wonder who my fellow citizens are. I've got to be honest, I feel like I've lost touch with what the identity of America is right now. I really do,' so said Boston Republican voter Marianne Doherty to the Washington Examiner.

I expect there'll be a lot of pearl clutching like Doherty's going on in the coming months in conservative circles.

Not everyone in Republican circles wants to rub their fingers down on the fiery braille of Tuesday election bust just yet, however. Some instead are simply seeing it as a call to arms. The candidates and policies weren't conservative enough, they cry.

On his increasingly paranoid talk show Glenn Beck observed that 'the body of America is even sicker than I thought it was' and declared that he no longer knows who Americans are.

For these people, there is no help, but it's instructive to hear them debate each other in the wilderness where their divisive, bigoted rhetoric and ideologies will always lead the GOP.

A decade in the echo chamber of Fox News and Glen Beck and Sarah Palin and Sean Hannity and evangelical political focus groups like Focus on The Family and the National Organization for Marriage have led the GOP into an anti-women, anti-gay, anti-science, anti-intellectual, mirage.

Americans don't want to live in that 'traditional' mirage. The asteroid that hit the GOP on Tuesday sent them a memo too: they're dinosaurs.

For two centuries 'traditional America' has been successfully sticking it to non-traditional America, meaning people of color and women and gays. On Tuesday the bill came due. This is the brave new nation we're leaving in.

Platitudes and scraps from the table aren't going to win you the presidency ever again, gentlemen.

susan724, when a man tells you he'll take care of you, he either wants sex or your vote. It's what he does afterwards that's important.
Ephraim I had a particularly good day Tuesday I won $22500 dollars on the cup,Obama won the presidency, but the clincher was watching Rove in denial after even Fox had conceded. The look of anxiety and fear was something to remember.
Ya!Bill, it ain't the 1950's anymore.
Actually, on reexamining the unnamed post below, I think that the quote should be "It is better to be right than righteous!"
Why were the Republican Dinosaurs taken by surprise by this asteroid. After all it had been predicted in ALL of the polls all year long which had Obama ahead or tied in the swing states and solidly ahead in the electoral votes from the non-swing states. Obama's ground operations were reported to be better than Romney's in all of the media all year long. Oh Wait, I know a place where all other media is biased and polls are corrupt and even our government manipulates statistics to make a republican look bad. It is the alternative universe called Fox News where people go to become less well informed than people who do not watch ANY news. Well Fox, you sure fooled them this time. Will you suffer a GOP backlash for misleading them? Probably not because you were just telling them what they wanted to hear and after all, you are an entertainment channel not a news channel anyway.
This is a PRE-EMPTIVE post as the last post has no By-Line and it invariably will steal mine. It was written by someone else, not that I disagree with its sentiment.
It is better to be righteous than right, but it is just damn neat to be both! Great article.
Hey exmarine54, I hate to burst your bubble but the United States is more than just the people of Illinois, New York, and California. As for finding a Latino, try Marco Rubio (Florida), Raul Labrador (Idaho) or Brian Sandoval (Nevada). As for a woman try Condoleeza Rice, Nikki Haley, Olympia Snowe, or Susanna Martinez for starters. Any of these individuals, would make an excellent vice presidential or presidential candidate.
Yes, the majority vote has changed. Although gays and lesbians on average have less income than others, they have more education (according to studies by Edelman & Sherrill 2008 and others). Gay males earn on average about 32 percent less than heterosexual males with similar educations. This gap is larger than the male-female income gender gap, which is large enough to consolidate women's votes. Also, African Americans are no longer shuffled out of schools in their early years, but complete 4-year degrees in large numbers--almost 4.6 million now. In the 1920s, one percent of African Americans had 4-year degrees; by 2008, nearly 20% had (in 2003, 13.5 percent of US-born Hispanics had 4-year degrees). So don't be fooled by the fact that discrimination and gaps still exist and you don't see full diversity in professional jobs. Education develops the ability to interpret facts, resist manipulation by political power brokers, network and vote for one's group interests. Education, both formal and informal, powered the diversity votes that re-elected Obama. Thinking people vote their sense of personal freedom and shared justice-- and their wallets. As long as 60 percent of families have yearly incomes under $50,000 (according to T Tritch writing in today's NY Times), these groups will bring their voters to the polls.
My, aren't the gleeful pinkos having a field day now?! Please keep rubbing Whitey's nose in his new political impotence good 'n' hard, Cahir! In doing so, you help us make him realize that the two-party voting scam will only work entirely against his interests from now on, and that the future has nothing in store but the insults & predation of smirking parasites. Then, at long last, we'll see some real political action.
I noticed Beck had an "uncle tom" on his panel. He and most of the speakers above are racist and have not the guts to say so. Certainly a room full of dinosaurs and pathetic old white people.
hey, michael in IDAHO????? the next time the republicans can find a FEMALE/LATINO who their right wing neanderthals will accept,,,,call me in Chicago....since HELL will be freezing over...
Lovely article....and can u believe Republicans will finally/ever see the light of day? not thru their current blinkers.....and it is so so satisfying that numbnuts like Cheney, O'Reilly, and Glenn Beck get their INYOUR FACE come uppance this sweet tuesday/wednesday.....i hope they CHOKE on the CROW they wil be eating for MONTHS and hopefully for YEARS to come...
Dinosaurs? Hardly. Obama barely won a popular vote majority (50.5 %) and did not even win a majority of the states in the electoral college (as of this writing). Romney lost because he had an image problem. Rightly or wrongly, many saw him as a cold-hearted, elitist plutocrat. If the Republican candidate had been a Latino or a female from a middle class background supportive of the U.S. auto industry with the same message as Romney, Obama would have been defeated easily.
shows how divided usa is,the land of the waltons and happy days is long gone, their is definately a political dinasaur class who fail to realise the complection of america has changed forever(no pun intended)i keep hearing about this disposessed middle class, what hardships they are enduring, what does that mean to them exactly, two holidays a year instead of 3,president Obama has attempted to introduce a little bit of fairness into a corrupt one sided system(14 million people with no medicare)and they hate him for it,how he is going to tame the warmongering multinational arnament and financial institutions which realy run america with the limited power of a divided house?and prevent a third middle east war,(which is what they thirst for)as for being screwed over, thats how the place was founded, maybe now they know how the indians felt.
