Golden Globes Style Report

Stepping out of the New York rain and snow for a moment it was nice to admire the beautiful shiny people on the red carpet at the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles.
The theme of the night appeared to be peaches, pinks and look-how-great-I-look-without my ex. Sandra Bullock and Scarlet Johansson wore similar delicate peachy-nude numbers by Jenny Packham and Elie Saab, but Sandra’s heavy hair and jewelry brought her down. She should have taken a leaf out of Scarlett’s book and gone for a swept up do and light jewelry. Maybe she didn’t want Ryan Reynolds to get confused.
Glee won Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical and Lea Michele demonstrated her growing style status with a dramatic, pink ruffled number by Oscar de la Renta. Another color splash came in dark green with Angelina Jolie, Mila Kunis and Catherine Zeta Jones all opting for the bold shade in Atelier Versace, Very Wang and Monique Lhuillier, making wearing green look easy.
The Best Actress and a very pregnant Natalie Portman glowed in a pale pink Viktor & Rolf creation. I loved the dress and the elegant up-do but hated the red accessories, especially the hideous Swarovski Crystal rose on the front, that took the outfit from simple and drapey, to tacky and why?! She deserved Best Actress but not best dressed.
My winner is Anne Hathaway, who did a bit of a Hilary Swank circa 2005 with a backless gold Armani dress  and Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry. This is a woman who knows how to make the most of herself and seems to get hotter every time I see her on the big screen. Also in the sparkle department was Olivia Wilde who wore an unbelievable Marchesa dress in black with silver sequins and she gave photographers a little peep of her to-die-for gold Louboutin booties.
It was nice to see a bit of glitz and glam at the Globes where others brought weirdness and mismatching shoes, ahem, Helena Bonham Carter. However, I think my most disappointing was the lovely Michelle Williams, who was nominated for Blue Valentine. Why oh why would you wear a daisy dress to the Golden Globes? She had been doing so well lately with the new hair and all. Shame on you Valentino!

Helena Bonham Carter's dress was really "over the top," that's for sure.
I know Helena wants to look quirky and I applaud originality in all shapes and sizes but I still thought that this was a bit early 90's even for her. Loved Sandra's dress, but I agree that the hair and jewelry didn't work with it. Thanks for the comments. x
I agree with all your assessments except for Helena Bonhan Carter. She WANTS to look "weird" to express her quirky personality - like Lady Gaga. This is how her fans expect her to look. They'd be disappointed if she dressed like an Anne Hathaway because that isn't Helena. Helena likes to have fun and be "left of center." She's doesn't care about being on the Best Dressed list. Michelle - what were you thinking??? That's the kind of dress I'd expect to see on Helena. I wouldn't wear that dress anywhere. Sandra - pu-leese - those bangs are awful and don't do a thing for you. At least get them styled and SHORTENED a wee bit.
Scarlett Johansson is stolen biological material, taken against will and formed to clones line 200 pieces total. Sign of dangerous criminal activity. If you ignore that message, you're on your own, do not blame anybody if something BAD will happen to you.
