Just look what happened when Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle finally had the opportunity to sing alongside West End legend Elaine Paige - that's right, it was an epic bust.
Paige laid down vocals for a duet with Boyle only to receive a diss that diva's of her magnitude are rarely afforded: the track was dropped from Boyle album.
Paige had recorded her part of I Know Him So Well from the musical Chess - until Boyle's management unceremoniously pulled the plug.
Paige, 62, was mystified - and, to be honest, miffed. "I did put my part of the duet down," the star told the press. "But they didn't do it. I don't know or understand quite why. It's a difficult scenario with Susan. The record company are very protective of her. They've made a choice not to sing with me. So that's fine by me."
Really? You're not bothered even a little bit?
"Susan has her career and I have mine," Paige continued. "We don't need to sing with each other to have a career."
Oh dear.
Perhaps the reason for the frostiness shown her by Boyle's management could have something to do with Paige's comments in January at the South Bank Awards.
Paige was quoted as saying: "Susan was like a virus really that spread across the world in a nanosecond."
"She has done terribly well to be a major star overnight with YouTube."

Give it a couple years. They are handling Susan verry carefully. So far, so good.

The Gift was a Christmas album. "I Know Him So Well", hardly had a place on it. Your headline is deliberately misleading since it was not Susan's decision in the first place. Efforts are often made by the media to start controversy between stars. Susan Boyle is much too gracious a person to ever play that game.

Well said by Kathy, kellie and flame. Both Elaine and Susan are faves of mine, individually. Mind you, so are my sons, with their geetars and individual vocal and musical comptitiveness between themselves. But when they get down to it together, at a good oul' Irish hoolie, be jacers, don't they do it so well. So can Elaine and Susan.

A great majority have already heard the television inperson version of Susan and Elaine singing the duet, "I Know Him So Well". It was featured on Susan's special "The Susan Boyle Story" over a year ago and was quite lovely and very popular when it went on the internet. I, personally, as well as quite a few others, would have liked another duet from them, but perhaps that option is now spoiled because, indeed, Elaine should zip it with her seemingly negativly naive commentary about someone who idolized her.

I personally don't want Susan to duet with Elaine Paige. They both have their own careers. Elaine should stop talking to the press about this incident. Move on, Elaine. Susan didn't make the decision of what songs would be included in her album, Sony was the one who made that decision.

The duet wouldn't have been appropriate for The Gift, but probably would have been used on a future CD.
If I were Elaine Paige I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that to happen now.
Some people never learn.
