CONTROVERSIAL Irish singer Sinead O'Connor has married Irish Australian musician Steve Cooney, a member of her band. The happy couple are pictured above after their wedding ceremony.

The announcement was on the singer's website. It is her third marriage

"We who run this site are very happy to announce the marriage of Steve Cooney and Sinéad O'Connor has taken place this morning," reads the official statement.

"Thanks be to the Great Lord Jah. Rastafarai.

Dread I. Conquering Lion I. One love" the statement said on website www.sineadoconnor.com which also showed a picture of the happy couple kissing.

A close friend told the Irish Independent that "Sinead has had a long friendship with Steve which has now blossomed into a relationship. She now believes this is the perfect basis for a marriage and a more settled stage in her life."

The marriage took place in in Europe as she plays in Lucerne, Switzerland on Saturday night as part of an acoustic tour.

The band is herself, new husband Cooney and fellow musician Kieran Kiely.

Australian-born Steve Cooney has been a member of Sinead O'Connor's band for the last four years as guitar player.

Before joining Sinead's band he was a key member of Stockton's Wing, for whom he played bass, and was also a member of duo 'Cooney & Begley' with musician Seamus Begley which played many venues in the Kerry Gaeltacht (Irish speaking) areas.

O'Connor has been wed twice before. Her first marriage was to writer John Reynolds,

They have a son Jake (23) together. She then had daughter Roisin in the 1996 with journalist John Waters.

In 2001 she married journalist Nick Sommerland but they split less than two years later. She had a son Shane with folk musician Donal Lunny in 2004.

She was seeing Mary Coughlan's ex husband, American Frank Bonadio, but they split earlier this year.

Well this is late lol,I just hope you are happy and i hope things work out for you and steve, and if it's really true love you should be able to work through anything, and always remember theres going to be stone throwing people no matter what you do or where you go.but i will say she looks really beautiful more now then before. Good Luck&God Bless.
I am sick to the teeth of Sinead O'Connor. She has five kids by different men. If a local girl did that she would be called a slut instead we all supposed to think she is great. You know what Good on her
Congrats to Sinead & Steve. BTW, I believe Sinead's ex John Reynolds is a musician and producer, not a writer.
Ho hum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Third time lucky? Good luck Stevo.
This, the very strange gal who constantly critizes the Pope/Catholics.... she's the devil herself!! She gets what she deserves... freak!!!
Good woman yerself! Hope you find happiness.
Congrats, Sinead,Steve looks surprisingly like me, it follows that he's is your ideal---for now. Therefore, because of having the same hairline, moustache and beard as the chosen groom, I'll be waiting in line to fill his shoes when he rides off into the sunset. I'm a mature eighty years old and am also a musician--- I play the harmonica and kazoo.
We were given to understand that she liked girls. Oops.
I think she is a nutter, but good luck. He's a Daddy now.
Psycho!!
Good Luck, Sinead! One of The most talented songstresses of our time.
I could not care more
Ah, the sanctity of marriage! She's getting married for the third time and so many people would be happy if they could just legally marry once.
Sinead is the woman. She is and has a fantastic truthful, talented journey thus far.
I love Sinead. She has the voice of an angel. She deserves the best that life can bring.
@Christisall - what an uncharitable and obnoxious sentiment. And very contradictory to your chosen nom-de-plume!
Sinead is disgusting, coarse, atheistic, and rotten. I do not wish her well.
Do they do Bar Mitzvahs?
Ah, tis great. Good for her and him. Blessed be the Union!
I'm happy for them!
wow she has hair?
everyone loves watching trainwrecks like this and some others that draws 'em nightly such characters as O'Reilly, Hannity, fill-in Ingram and Huckabee.
I suggest that she sings "Here's to the next time" at her concert on Saturday night.
She has a young son with Bonadio too. I figured that's who she was marrying. Good luck to her though, hope that this time it'll be a happy union that will sustain.
