Rosie O'Donnell

When talk show giants attack each other, things can get crazy fast. That's why it's especially surprising that David Letterman indulged in a bit of none too subtle gay-bashing involving Rosie O'Donnell's love life this week.

O'Donnell recently announced her engagement to Michelle Rounds, only to hear the Late Show maestro compare her to a tow-truck driver.

Rosie rightly took offense this week. She played back Letterman's wisecrack on her show:

'The woman she is marrying, her fiancee, was driving and her car broke down. And guess what happened? Rosie pulls up right behind her in her tow truck,' joked Letterman on Tuesday's broadcast.

Suggesting lesbians are mannish is a last century cliche that Rosie - and a big percent of her audience - considered a joke too far. E Online reported Rosie's comeback.

'Why is that Dave? Why? I don't remember making fun of you when you had sex with all your interns! I didn't do that,' O'Donnell scoffed. 'I didn't make fun of your rampant, throbbing heterosexuality, did I Dave?'

O'Donnell followed up with a Top Ten Five Reasons Why I Will Not Do Your Program.

'Dave, when you had that heart surgery, you shouldn't have told the doctors to take out that whole thing,' O'Donnell quipped. 'I remember when you had one, Dave, you were nice then.'

And regarding the tow ruck gibe she added: 'Not only do you appear to be antigay, you're anti-tow truck driver and that just pisses me off.'

NYCFiredog, I sympathize with your son's friend. He hardly deserved an obsecene gesture & expletive, for merely saying "Hey Rosie". This reminds me of Duke Snider giving a kid the finger at a game in Ebbets Field, back in the 1950's. The kid, now a writer, reported this in his column, when the Duke died, in early 2010. These celebraties really have no class! One of the best examples of grace under pressure came after Spectacular Bid lost the Belmont Stakes, and a chance at the 1979 Triple Crown. Bid's arrogant trainer, Buddy Delp, was leaving the track, when the father of a 9-year old girl called out to him, requesting an autograph. The trainer stopped, smiled at the girl & dad, and gave her his signature. He then said, "You've got all the losers now; don't feel sorry for me". That was very classy, especially coming from someone like Buddy Delp, at a dark moment!
Letterman can't afford to be slagging anyone!! Rosie has every right to hit back at that overpaid oversexed heterosexual moron
Who cares she is soooo yesterday!
My son's friend saw her in Nyack and said "Hey Rosie!". She gave him the evil eye, flipped him her finger and said "Go F__Ck yourself.". Sounds like something a tow truck driver would say, IF you gave him a reason. But having heard her once talk about losing her mother who adored her as a young girl and being treated like unwanted garbage by her father, I can have compassion for her. Same with Sinead O'Connor. I think they were very damaged little girls.
You go girl! Now I have another, really good, reason for not liking David Letterman.
Jesus, I just wish she was Polish or something. I know a lot of Polish jokes
