According to the Herald, the 19 year old One Direction member may be part of New Year's Rockin' Eve which will be hosted by US X Factor presenter Ryan Seacrest.
The event is transmitted every year to audiences of around 20 million and One Direction, now the biggest pop act in the world, are rumored to watch the ball drop in Times Square at the event this New Year's Eve.
Last month Niall told the press he was looking forward to chilling out in his hometown of Mullingar this Christmas, where he looked forward to getting 'fat' on roast turkey and mince pies.
The young Irish star reportedly couldn't wait to spend the holidays with his dad Bobby, his grandmother Margaret and his newly engaged older brother Greg, who is due to get married in March next year.
'I'll probably go home to Ireland and do the same thing as every year - drink, eat and sleep a lot,' he said. 'I'll just chill out, become fat. We always go to the pub on Christmas eve.'
But now instead of hanging out in Mullingar, Niall may find himself taking Manhattan by storm instead.
If One Direction sign up to perform they'll find themselves sharing airtime with other banner teens stars Justin Bieber, who's scheduled to perform as are the Black Eyed Peas.
And maybe at the New Year's Rockin' Eve we'll finally see the 1D boys dancing Gangnam style, as internet sensation Psy is scheduled to play too.
Oh, and expect some backstage drama when Taylor Swift, 22, who has reportedly been dating 1D star Harry Styles, makes an appearance. Swift has been pursuing Styles but ignoring the existence of all the other 1D lads. That's a major no-no in the fiercely competitive boy band world.
