Margaret Thatcher's family are appalled that the script for a new movie on their mother shows Meryl Streep playing Thatcher at the beginning of the film as an old lady suffering from dementia.

She is shown talking to herself and unaware that her husband, Sir Denis Thatcher, has passed away.

Thatcher has two children, Mark and Carol.

“Sir Mark and Carol are appalled at what they have learnt about the film,” a friend of the family told the Daily Telegraph. “They think it sounds like some Left-wing fantasy. They feel strongly about it, but will not speak publicly for fear of giving it more publicity."

Cameron McCracken, the managing director of the film-maker Pathé, confirms: "It is true that the film is set in the recent past and that Baroness Thatcher does look back on both the triumphs and the lows of her extraordinary career.

"It is a film about power and the price that is paid for power. In that sense, it is the story of every person who has ever had to balance their private life with their public career."

He stated Thatcher's health "will be “treated with appropriate sensitivity”. He adds of the film: “Although fictional, it will be fair and accurate.”

Searlit: "She let the Irish Prisoners of war die."? It appears I will have to ask my questions again....Were the IRA or INLA prisoners denied food? Did they not choose to die? Remind me, how many "prisoners of war" did the IRA or INLA take? If you do not understand I'll be happy to rephrase in more pedestrian English.
I am always upset by horrific attacks of violence, no matter who the perpetrators are, and I have compassion for the victims and their families. However, if England had not forcibly taken land away from the Irish, long ago,in the first place, so many people, including the people that died in the Great Famine, could have lived. May everyone that died rest in peace.
Isn't anyone able to answer this one....how many prisoners did the IRA or INLA take?
Seamus59: I condemn all murders my friend, however the British Army was responsible for only 297 deaths and the RUC for 55 - a mere handful of these were judged unlawful in any way whatsoever. By way of comparison, the Provisional IRA were responsible for far and away the greatest number of deaths during the ‘Troubles’ in all of the following categories; women (139), old age pensioners (90), children (47), innocent civilians (512), Protestants (795), and Roman Catholics (342). In total the IRA killed 1709 people. The British security forces took thousands of IRA and INLA prisoners during this period - all were tried fairly in a court of law and imprisoned accordingly. As for IRA prisoners, well no justice or human rights for them - don't believe me? Ask Jean McConville.
So they're going to make a film about 'Attila the Hen'! It should be good for a laugh if nothing else!
In reply to Realist: Do you have the same condemnation for British Army and RUC murderers? If so why don't you state it?
Searlit: Were the IRA or INLA prisoners denied food? Did they choose to die or were they just slimming for Ireland? Remind me, how many prisoners did the IRA or INLA take? I see you feel sympathy for these convicted terrorists. Personally, I reserve mine for the likes of 26-year-old mother-of-three Yvonne Dunlop who was burned to death by hunger striker Thomas McElwee (9th suicide) in 1976 in front of her own 5-year-old son. McElwee chose to take his own worthless life, what choice was Mrs. Dunlop given?
She let the Irish Prisoners of war die. I didn't like her politics before that, but I can't forget Bobby Sands and the other Prisoners who died because of her arrogance. How can people be so cold-hearted? It has to be a part of some illness, yes it's easier to think that.
If one person deserves to play the part it is the multi-talented Meryl Streep. I am looking forward to seeing her play the part of a Classic Bitch . She'll do a great job.
That Thatcher has long been demented is hardly fiction. The Poll Tax, the pathetic Falklands War, the Miners strike--need one say more about this diabolical individual?
I know, Irishwxman, we should always sugarcoat the facts. Wouldn't history be more pleasant if we could do that.
Leave it to the looney left in Hollywood to distort the character of someone they don't like.
