Heartbroken Liam Neeson drops out of movie about Scottish Saint Columba

Bookmark and Share

Grieving Irish star Liam Neeson has dropped out of a planned movie project with Jeremy Irons.

Neeson was supposed to play King Aidan in a movie about Saint Columba, the saint who brought Christianity to Scotland.

However, Neeson has decided to take a break citing his grief over the death of his beloved wife Natasha, seen above with Liam.

Natasha tumbled and fell on a beginner's slope in Canada in March last year while on a brief skiing trip.

She seemed fine at first but lapsed into a coma and was eventually flown to Lenox Hill Hospital where she died a few days later.

Being a real trouper Neeson has tried to keep up with his commitments but he clearly needs to be able to take time out.

Scottish director Norman Stone seems to understand Liam's loss.

"It has been a difficult time for Liam. I think he would have been great in the film. We wanted him to play the part of King Aidan, who has fiery clashes with Columba (played by Irons). It would've been great to see him alongside Jeremy.

"The script was with him for several months and I understand he loved it. He has decided not to go ahead, which is a pity, but the decision was made after what has been a difficult time for him and I respect the circumstances. He is a truly great actor."

Liam Neeson is an incredible man and a brilliant actor. He was blessed with Natasha, the love of his life. He has suffered a tragic loss. He needs the time to grieve and take care of his sons. But he will be back!
My heart breaks everytime I hear his name or see his picture. He is a gifted actor but before that he is a grieving husband with children that are relying on him for support. He will be back to grace the big screen but he needs to find peace for himself and those close to him.
Having lost my husband several years ago, I can sympathize with Mr. Neeson. i thank God that I have seven children to keep me on track.
"about Scottish Saint Columba" ... Ahem! Saint Columba was Irish ... and better than that he was a Donegal man!!!!
So many Hollywood marriages don't last. This one was a real love story though. He lost the love of his life and will need a lot of time to recover. It won't be easy but in time may he find the strength to go on. I am sure that's what Natasha would have wanted for him.
Would have been the man for the job....too bad for us but a trifle compared to his loss.
Liam Neeson has always been a wonderful actor. The loss of his beautiful wife is a loss that most cannot comprehend. I pray that God watches over him, blesses him and helps him to begin the grieving process. It is a long one. My heart goes out to him.
My heart breaks for Liam with the loss of his loving wife. They had built such a beautiful life together and were truly in love with each other. I'm hoping that, when the time is right, he can love and marry again like Pierce Brosnan did. It's good for him to take a break and grieve.
liam Neeson is an actor whose quality as a man enhances his every performance it is impossible not to feel it. In his time of grieving for the loss of his beautiful wife I pray for his healing May God bless him and give him deep consolation. .
Let him grieve.
My heart goes out to this fine man and actor, and I hope he takes the needed time to heal. First for him, then he can think of the public again.
Liam Neeson is a great actor. He has been very busy making movies, lately and does need a break. He suffered a terrible loss. I'm glad to hear there's a movie being made about St. Columba. Ancient Irish History is very interesting.
