Elaine Paige launches Susan Boyle attack, calling her 'a virus'

Bookmark and Share

Susan Boyle's idol Elaine Paige has launched an astonishing attack on the Scottish songstress calling her ' a virus who has spread across the world in a nanosecond.'

"I don't particularly feel any pride for her - I'm sure she is proud of what she has done," Paige stated.

“It's all about turning someone into an immediate celebrity at the expense of longevity and working hard and experience.

“Susan Boyle is doing terribly well considering she literally came to the attention of the world overnight with the advent of YouTube.”

She said to the Daily Mail: “She was like a virus really that spread across the world in a nanosecond.

“She is a girl with no experience of anything to do with theatrics, the music business, or art in any way.

“She has done terribly well to be a major star overnight with YouTube.”

Boyle performed with Paige at Christmas and was deeply moved by the experience.

Boyle said: “I never thought I would see myself standing on the same stage with such an icon from West End theatre, let alone singing with her as an equal.”

EP looks an awful green colour. Looks terrible with her wig.
Why don't you do some real journalism about Irishmen doing some positive things, like Sean Penn busting his ass in Haiti, And all the other Irishmen over there trying to help out????? Susan Boyle and all the other Irishmen singing their hearts out trying to raise money? The Clinton's and Bush's trying to get it together to get the Haitians some money. Why don't you hop on a plane and show you can do some real reporting?
Here you go again IC quoting one of those trashing English newspapers. shame on you.
Oh, come on now, Elaine Page was misquoted. She was sour grapes, because she things the only way to the top is the way she did it. But She did not say Susan was a "virus" but the way she got to the top was "like" how a virus spreads on a computer. Come on IC get your facts straight.
Ellen Paige sounds like a very nice and kind person.
would you like to be referred as a "virus"
judicandler.....if you read this, I Would love to speak with you. My name is Candler also and the name is not common.Have you been to the FB site Candler not Chandler? Sorry, I Know this is not a personal site.
Thw way I read Ms. Paige's comments there is no attack. She was discussing Boyle's meteoric rise to celebrity and that "she has done surprisingling well." Where are the wrods of attack?
Sounds like the Press...."astonishing attack" are not Elaines words....and probably the way it's presented is once again to sell papers. It might be good to check out face book according to another reader/fan. Posted 4 comments earlier by AmericanReader.
It was said when Elaine suggested that she do a duet with Susan that, the duet was being suggested to make Elaine look good, it was for her benefit not Susan's. Sad to say that it looks like that was true. Looks like an envious Elaine.
I was disappointed to read E.P.'s comments re Susan Boyle: “She is a girl with no experience of anything to do with theatrics, the music business, or art in any way." Is this, and her other comments, a misquote? I certainly hope so. But it does sound so much like sour grapes.
Tabloid nonsense! See Elaine's Facebook response.
I think jealousy has reared its ugly head.
sad, very sad.
This was not Elaine's first bar-b-q with the "press". If experience wasn't enough to remind her to keep her mouth shut, then common sense should have been.
Such a sad thing to say, after Susan had complimented her so much. Sounds like Elaine's not too happy about where she is, herself.
I find it hard to believe that Elaine Paige would say anything like that. People do work hard to make it in the business but that does not mean Susan is not good. She will learn the ropes a different way.
I don't think Elaine Page would say anything like that. Susan Boyle is a wonderful lady and I always thought Elaine Paige was also. Susan Boyle forever.
Someone sounds jealous. Susan Boyle is one of my favorites. P.S. I am not getting the photo's on my front page of this web-site.
another whom susan made superfluous. A Zero i've never heard of.
I do not believe this for an instant! Ms. Paige has obviously been misquoted by a vicious tabloid. She has always been most gracious to Susan, and has expressed her support and admiration right from the start. Don't believe this, folks, it's just another way the yellow journalists have found to hurt Susan. She does not deserve this, and neither does Ms. Paige.
I think you need to update this column as to the manipulation of the "interview" with EP. You might even want to print the response she made yesterday to the account of what she said. EP has been kind and loving to Susan Boyle and as you know performed with her on the Special, I Dreamed a Dream. You need to update this column - better yet, write a new one, to reflect Elaine's comments in response to the manipulation of her statements to whomever wrote this "article."
I notice that Ms Paige didn't mind singing with the "virus" to get her face on TV!!! Envy is the true virus, and I think Ms Paige has caught it. No matter how Susan was discovered, it's her talent that sold the CDs. I bought it as soon as it was available and I still cry at the beauty and heart in her singing!
Elaine Paige has issued a personal statement on her Facebook page to make clear that the Daily Mail had twisted her words. She is a gracious lady and has always been a wholehearted supporter of Susan. http://www.facebook.com/notes/elaine-paige/a-personal-statement-from-elaine-about-today-s-press-reports/291035364344
seems like more tabloid sensationalism
Those of us who have watched Susan's rise to fame have also watched the press try to destroy her. I think the misquote of Elaine Paige was just another way to smear two lovely ladies.Shame on the tabloids.
An acidic response is always the result of Sour Grapes consumed by a Sour-Puss...
I think the Daily Mail may have set Paige up.
I think Paige is jealous, pure and simple. I saw the show where they performed together and I had to say that Susan outshone Paige in every way. Her voice is way better, no matter how long or what her experience has been. She was definitely born to be a winner!! I love her!
Susan sang since she was 12 and practiced for decades, as well as taking lessons when she could and studying at the Edinburgh Acting School. She would have sung professionally but was never given the chance. No one should think her success came easily.
