After his latest drug and alcohol fuelled hotel rampage last week, Charlie Sheen is considering sobering up with family on the Emerald Isle, according to the Daily Star.

The 45-year-old actor, whose grandmother Mary Anne Phelan emigrated to the U.S. from County Tipperary, has relatives in Ireland.

His cousin Teresa Phelan said she would welcome the “Two and A Half Men” star into her home in the village of Kilbarron.

“It’s a much quieter life down here and he could walk around without being bothered by anybody.
“He needs to look after his health and avoid the limelight.

“Living here for a while would be a good thing for him to do,” said the 72-year-old.

Teresa has stayed in close touch with Charlie’s father, veteran-actor Martin Sheen, who completed a university degree course in Ireland four years ago. Sheen has begged his son to take advantage of his family ties there.

Martin is schedule to begin filming a new movie called “Stella Days” in the nearby town of Borrisokane.
If Charlie accompanies his father to Ireland, Martin and Teresa hope to persuade the troubled actor to enter the Northfields rehab center located in Clonmel.

After Sheen flew into a rage with porn star Capri Anderson last Monday, he was rushed to from the Plaza Hotel, in New York, to a hospital complaining of chest pains. The 22-year-old Anderson, whose real name is Christine Walsh, is suing Sheen for “mental and physical distress.”

Said Sheen’s cousin Teresa “If any ordinary person goes out, gets drunk and falls over, nobody takes a blind bit of notice. But when somebody famous like Charlie does it, then it’s suddenly a big deal.”

Going to Ireland to give up drink .. that's a new one..
MarthaAnne, you're close. Sheen's mother's last name is Estevez, which his brother chose to use. Charlie decided to go with his father's last name.
I thought he was Mexican American! Not kidding. I read that somewhere.
who cares what happens to charlie sheen he's a grown man with too much money i would'nt give him the time of day
WOW Isent that an *********( oximoron )**********
Belay that bible-belting blather, RuthAnn. Charlie Sheen's a waste of protoplasm, waste of air, waste of people's concern. He has a death-wish. As someone who suffers from both bone-cancer and prostate-cancer, I know how precious life is. If Charlie Sheen wants to throw away his life on whores, cocaine and alcohol -- then fer Chrissakes, LET HIM! tonyo
Charlie appears to be a lost soul...but heaven's sent him a blessed means of getting away from it all, being looked after by loving family, getting well, and beginning anew. You can do it, Charlie Sheen. Do it for yourself, of course, but for the love of God, do it for the sake of your children. Your life is their legacy..."For I now the plans I have for you, says the Lord...plans to give you hope and a future." Jer. 29:11 God bless your way.
Per my pvs comment . . . Charlie Sheen has been going to whores, breathing "coke" and drinking himself into oblivion most of his adult life. He lacks any shred of talent. I don't know WHY he's even in show biz (except perhaps because his father is, and "got" him his work there). The man's a waste -- of your time and mine, as well as of his life. Going to Ireland won't fix that. He's a disgrace to his Irish roots! tonyo
Saying Ireland is one big bar is silly,I don't think he's have to go far to acquire alcohol in any country,But Ireland is a good spot for a bit of peace and quiet (apart from those loudmouth Dubliners)Irish people in general don't care how famous you are,I think irish people are very good at separating the person from his job .If he acts and allows himself to be treated normally, then he will be treated normally.Anyway he's only an actor,in Ireland that doesn't count for anything
REally? Going to Ireland to sober up? That's like telling an anorexic to go to LA to get better!!! Seems like a silly idea... although I agree with Whitepark that most Irish people don't care for celebs and he will get to live a normal quiet life.
Charley has so much talent and I hate to see it destroyed by the Bottle, Ireland is a great place for him to seek the help he needs as 99% of the Irish people are not wooed by Celebrity status, to them he is just another regular guy with a job. Good luck Charlie show thge skeptics you can do it.
I think getting away and being around people who care about him and not his fame and money would be great. But, I have never considered Ireland a place to get away from alcohol... just saying...
If the Irish government was smart they wouldn't let him into the country.
If Charlie Sheen ever wins an Academy Award you can bet this website will be talking about the Spanish side of his ancestry. But for now.....Sheen is being urged to "sober up" in Ireland because as we all know, alcohol use is practically nonexistent there.
It might work if his family in Ireland are all Pioneers.
