Fassbender, 34, plays an Irishman living in New York City who's life is ruined by his inability to emotionally connect with others due to his compulsive behavior. Now Irish therapists say that many Irish movie-goers connect with Fassbender’s character and his struggles.
Declan Fitzpatrick, who runs the Dublin-based Addictive Behaviors Centre Ireland, told the Examiner that the movie had actually doubled the number of enquiries he has received about the problem. Many thousands more are suffering in silence he added, because they are either unaware they have a problem or they may not be aware that help is available.

The recently-released second poster of the movie 'Bel Ami' shows Robert Pattinson in an intense smoldering gaze as three of his lovely lady co-stars look on from behind him.
Uma Thurman, Kristen Scott Thomas and Christina Ricci star as the women Pattinson's character Georges Deroy seduces on his way to the top.
The film, which is based on the classic French novel of the same name by author Guy de Maupassant, is set to premiere at the Berlin Film Festival on February 17.

New York eatery Joanne Trattoria - which is backed by the Lady Gaga and run by her parents Cynthia and Joseph - was criticized on opening last Wednesday for its "clueless" waiters and "unspeakably fatty" food.
Food critic Steve Cuzzo wrote a damning review for the New York Post newspaper, entitled 'You'll gag on the food at Gagas.'
Gwyneth Paltrow admits she and Chris Martin 'fall in and out of love'
Gwyneth Paltrow - who has a seven-year-old daughter, Apple, and a five-year-old son, Moses, with her spouse Chris Martin - thinks their ups-and-downs have only made their union stronger.
The 39-year-old actress said: "My parents were married for 30-something years, and my dad said [it was] because they never wanted to get divorced at the same time.
"I think you do fall in and out of love and you just keep going, and every time you go through a really difficult phase, you rediscover something new and it just gets better. We've been married for more than eight years now, and we're still into it."
Demi Lovato's eating disorder made her 'very manipulative'
Demi Lovato – who entered rehab in late 2010 to seek help for her problems –spent two years prior to her hospitalization doing whatever she could to avoid people finding out there was anything wrong.
The 19-year-old singer and actress said: "I was a very manipulative person when it came to my eating disorder. You name it, I did it.
"I would lie about already eating. I would lie about having to go to the bathroom. I would go to any lengths to make sure I was sick."
