The last time Rory McIlroy was in Washington it was to drink champagne from the US Open trophy, he told the press this week.

According to a report in the Journal.ie the golf ace finally returned to DC yesterday, but this time it was for a top tier black-tie dinner at the White House with President Barack Obama and the visiting British prime minster, David Cameron.

McIlroy, now the world's number one golfer, was invited to Pennsylvania Avenue for the event to honor Prime Minister Cameron and his wife Samantha.  The Holywood County Down native is currently enjoying a little rest and relaxation before the first Major of the year, the Masters at Augusta scheduled for next month.

Among the guests at the upscale diplomatic bash were British actor Damian Lewis, star of Homeland, millionaire Virgin records head Richard Branson and actor George Clooney. American RR&B star John Legend provided the musical entertainment for the guests.
