Soccer star Wayne Rooney will be available for Manchester United’s match against Chelsea tonight, as his elbow on Wigan midfielder James McCarthy will not now be acted on.
The team feared that the England striker could receive a ban from the Football Association after an ugly incident that saw Rooney elbow an Irish international on the side of his head during Man United’s 4-0 victory on Saturday.
But Rooney escaped with a telling off by referee Mark Clattenburg, and a report concluded it did not have enough evidence to take further action against the player.
Rooney is likely to start as a lone striker in the match tonight when United face the current Premier League Champions Chelsea.
