Irish light middleweight boxer John Hutchinson will return to the Boston boxing scene on Saturday, October 26 in a match against previous opponent Robert Hunt.

The Donegal native, known as the “Buncrana Banger,” turned professional last year. He fought against Hunt during his American boxing debut in July, but the fight was ruled a draw after a nasty head clash.

Along with another Irish prospect, Michael McLaughlin, Hutchinson is featured on the first professional boxing card to be held at the Irish Cultural Centre, Canton, MA. Billed as the “Boxing Event under the Tent,” it is presented by Big Six entertainment in association with Danny Kelly Promotions

The 27-year-old fighter, who hails from Inishowen, admits to being a “late starter” who didn’t find himself in a boxing club until his late teens. Since then, he has made up for lost time by training at professional clubs in Ireland, England, Wales and even Thailand.

In 2010, Hutchinson was in Boston and had the opportunity to fight alongside fellow Inishowen native McLaughlin at the Dorchester Armory in an American vs. Ireland boxing contest.

Hutchinson returned to Ireland and had been training at the Breen Gym in Belfast. However, the six-hour commute every day was draining, so when the opportunity to relocate to Boston presented itself, John jumped at the chance.

Since returning to the U.S.,  the fighter has worked hard to improve his boxing techniques. In July he began been training in a UK club alongside 17 other professional boxers.

Hutchinson is currently undergoing some pre-fight training at the Dorchester Boxing Club alongside Mclaughin, in preparation for Saturday’s boxing card in Canton, MA on October 26.

Boxing fans and ‘Buncrana Banger’ supporters can still purchase tickets for this unique afternoon boxing event by calling (617) 312-5059 or by visiting www.irishculture.org.

Doors open at 1:00 p.m. ET with the first bout scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
