Arsenal Update

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has dropped the biggest hint yet that he could stay with the Gunners next season.

Fabregas made the revelation fresh from Wednesday night’s stunning Champions League win over his beloved Barcelona.

The former Barca youth team player was a star performer as Arsenal won their first leg last 16 game 2-1 at the Emirates.

Real Madrid and Chelsea have been linked with Fabregas along with Barcelona.

But the World Cup winner told The Sun: “I’m showing I’m committed to this club and we want to do great things.

“I want to continue working to improve and help us win trophies. We are still fighting in all four competitions.

“We want to win everything and go the farthest possible in all competitions. My future is the last thing on my mind.”

The Spaniard has also claimed that Wednesday night’s 2-1 win was the greatest game he has played in.

He added: “It’s a massive victory. It’s the best game I’ve experienced in terms of quality and intensity.
“They had the ball, they went for it. We had the ball, we went for it.

“I’ve never experienced a game with so much quality on the pitch from both teams. Of course it was the right result.”

Liverpool Update

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish will show faith in Joe Cole as the former Chelsea midfielder tries to establish himself at Anfield.

Cole played for new boss Dalglish for the first time in Thursday night’s scoreless Europa League draw away to Sparta Prague.

The substitute appearance was only Cole’s 19th game in a red shirt and marked his return from a recent knee injury.

Dalglish has acknowledged that Liverpool fans have yet to see the best of Cole, signed on a free transfer in the summer.

The Scot admitted: “We have got to be patient with Joe. That his first run out since I came here.

“That is a great start for him, to get himself on the pitch and get an hour won’t do him any harm.

“Joe is a valuable asset for us. Obviously he is not going to pick his form up immediately, if he does it will be a real bonus for us.

“But we are not going to put him under pressure and expect him to be the Joe Cole who came to Liverpool in the summer.

“We want to give him a bit of time and make sure he gets there. Form is temporary, class is permanent and that is where we stand with Joe.

“We’ll give him a bit of time to get up to speed and then we’ll judge him. Joe needs his injury rebuilding so we’ll get that right first.”

Liverpool hope to have captain Steven Gerrard and defender Daniel Agger back for the return leg on Merseyside next week.

Spurs Update

Tottenham coach Joe Jordan has hit back in his Champions League row with AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso.

The Italian international has been charged with ‘gross unsporting conduct’ by UEFA after head-butting Jordan at the San Siro.

Gattuso faces a lengthy ban when UEFA hear his case on Monday, six days after Tottenham’s shock 1-0 win in Italy.

Representatives of Gattuso have tried to claim that Jordon, a former AC player himself, made ‘racist’ remarks at the player.

But the Spurs coach has categorically denied the claims and branded Gattuso ‘pathetic’.
“It’s just nonsense, it really is,” Jordan told the Daily Mail.

“It’s a figment of his imagination and, I have to say, not a great imagination, at that.

“If he wanted to try and explain his behavior, you would have thought he might have come up with something better than that.

“It’s pathetic. Completely and utterly untrue and quite pathetic. He will have to address his conduct overall, and account for himself to UEFA, but the allegation he has made is something else.”

Jordan is angry that Gattuso has tried to undermine his relationship with AC Milan officials and supporters.

The Scot added: “I’m not having that, because Italy has played an important part in my life and will continue to.

“Milan are an exceptional club and I consider myself very fortunate to have played for them.

I had plenty of high points in my career, but signing for them was the best thing I did. They gave me a chapter in my career I always hankered after, a spell playing abroad, and I could not have picked a better club.

“I love Italy and have always had an affinity with the people. Does that sound like someone who would come out with the sort of line Gattuso has got his agent to say? I just find it pathetic on his part, I really do.”
