Former All-Ireland champion Colm Bonnar spoke out this week about his love for the Premier County (Tipperary) and how he feels they have what it takes to beat Kilkenny in the All-Ireland hurling Final this Sunday.
Bonnar, who won All-Irelands with Tipp in 1989 and ’91, told the Irish Post Sunday is a "one-off game."
"Tipp can do it. If they can stop Kilkenny getting goals, Tipp have the forwards to score at least 22 or 23 points.
Despite Kilkenny having the experience and several All-Ireland's under their belt, Bonnar said " Tipp won’t fear them — there’s a tradition of putting it up" to Kilkenny.
He added, “They went close in last year’s final and the attitude will be one of learning from that experience and not wanting to lose second time around.
"This is a young Tipp team, they’ve grown in the Championship since defeat to Cork and played their best game of the year against Waterford. They will be delighted to be back in another All-Ireland final.”
Bonnar said he feels Kilkenny are under more pressure than Tipperary to win the four-in-a-row giving advantage to the underdogs.
“There is always pressure when you are in an All-Ireland final, your supporters expect you to win and players don’t want to lose again."
He does however recognize Kilkenny's skill level and the challenge they will present to his team on Sunday.
“If they do get in trouble in any position, they have someone just as good to come in off the bench. They’ve newer players like John Dalton, who can keep someone like Michael Kavanagh out of the team — that’s saying something. Tipp have it all to do, but they have the young players to do it.”
