Leinster destroyed Biarritz with a five star and five try performance on their way to a 44-16 Amlin Cup semifinal win at the RDS last Saturday.

The Blues could now add the Challenge Cup to the Heineken Cup trophy they won in 2011 and 2012 before Joe Schmidt leaves for the Ireland job.

They will now meet French side Stade Francais in the final at their own RDS ground on May 17, with Schmidt confident his big name players will step up to the mark again.

“You really have to get up for games like that and what we also demonstrated is that this is a really important European competition to us,” Schmidt said.

Ireland captain Jamie Heaslip scored two tries for the Heineken Cup holders, with Jonathan Sexton, Isa Nacewa and Brian O’Driscoll also crossing the line.

In other results, Connacht drew 23-23 with Treviso in the Rabo 12 League. The Western province can still make the Heineken Cup next season – if Leinster wins the Amlin Challenge Cup.
