Just four days after winning the 3 Irish Open at Baltray in County Louth, Shane Lowry has decided to quit the amateur game and join the paid ranks.

Last week,  in an unbelievable display of skill and nerve far beyond his 22 years, he won his first professional tournament at the 3 Irish Open, becoming the first Irish amateur in 47 years to win against the professionals.

It seems the lure of doing that king of thing for a living (and getting well paid for it) was too much for the Offaly man to turn down, and he is expected to tee off for the first time as a pro at the European Open in London next week.
