Meath were the big winners on a dramatic weekend of GAA action as Seamus McEnaney’s side shocked Kildare in the Leinster SFC semi-final at Croke Park on Sunday.

Rank outsiders, the Royals were full value for their 1-17 to 1-11 win, inspired by a brilliant Peadar Byrne goal and described by boss Seamus McEnaney as ‘sweet’.

They will now meet their old rivals Dublin in the Leinster final at Croke Park on July 22nd.

Dublin had Diarmuid Connolly sent-off but still came back to defeat Wexford by four points in the second Leinster semi-final at headquarters.

Champions Donegal are through to the Ulster football final after seeing off Tyrone in Clones.

There were a number of shocks in the football qualifiers with Roscommon winning against Armagh, a result that saw Paddy O’Rourke step down as Armagh boss.

Luke Dempsey quit as Carlow boss after his team’s defeat to Laois while Peter Canavan’s future is in doubt after his Fermanagh side crashed out to Cavan.

Longford shocked Derry, Westmeath ended Louth’s interest in the championship and Tipperary scored an impressive win over Offaly with Wicklow and London winners over Waterford and Antrim respectively.

The draw for the next round of football matches in the All-Ireland qualifier series will see Seanie Johnston and his new team Kildare travel to play his old Cavan side.

The draw also throws Roscommon in against Tyrone while Kerry will travel to Mullingar to play Westmeath.

The full draw for the second round of All-Ireland football qualifiers is:

Antrim v Galway; Leitrim v Wicklow; Westmeath v Kerry; Roscommon v Tyrone; Longford v Limerick; Cavan v Kildare; Laois v Monaghan; Tipperary v Wexford.

Games will be played on the weekend of July 14th and 15th.
