Blackburn Rovers could scupper plans to Turkish club Kasimpasa to land Roy Keane as their new manager.

The former Sunderland and Ipswich boss flew to Istanbul on Monday for talks with the Turkish club.

Keane has been offered a huge salary by Kasimpasa’s new owners but has yet to agree any deal.

As he arrived to look at the club’s facilities and discuss terms in Turkey, manager-less Blackburn made approaches to his advisors in England.

TheIrish Sun reports that Keane could yet be tempted by the chance to take Blackburn back into the Premier League.

A source told the paper, “He is in Turkey and he is talking to Kasimpasa but nothing has been agreed.

“Roy always has a good look at things before making his mind up and this will be no different but there are other options.”

Former Irish international striker Tony Cascarino, who was famously battoned by Turkish riot police after a playoff game in Istanbul, believesKeane could be tempted to move to the country.

Cascarino told theIrish Sun, “I remember I came into the dressing room after the game after taking quite a few punches from quite a few people and there was blood pouring out of me.

“Roy just sat there and looked at me. He didn’t say anything at all. He took it all in and moved on. Nothing really bothered him like that.

“Turkey is the most crazy, hostile football I’ve ever known. I played there a few times and can remember a really bad atmosphere when we beat them in 1991.

“The crowds are very hostile and I know from talking to a few managers who’ve been there that chairman can make decisions that just seem illogical.

“That is why I’m surprised because it’s a risk going there. But the rewards are also great. Roy knows the pitfalls. He was there plenty of times with Manchester United as well so he knows what to expect.

“The only thing that would really concern me is I don’t think doing well in the Turkish League will really get him noticed. I don’t think it’s a place to go to restart your management career.”

Graeme Souness, who managed Turkish giants Galatasaray, believes Keane’s shock move proves he wants a return to management.

Souness said, “I don’t know a lot about Kasimpasa but I knowRoy loves a challenge.

“Istanbul is a magnificent place to live and work. The people were so friendly to me and my wife and daughter during my years there and I believe the city has got so much better since. I had a fantastic time.

“We know Roy’s time at Ipswich didn’t end all that well and he’ll be wanting to get stuck back in. I don’t see it as being a strange move. He wants to manage and this opportunity has arisen.”
