The world’s best golfer will turn his hand to baseball next month – and become a pitcher for the San Francisco Giants.

Rory McIlroy is to perform the ceremonial duty of honorary pitcher at the Giants game against the Houston Astros on June 12th.

The honor has come McIlroy’s way as reigning US Open champion ahead of his defence of the title at the nearby Olympic Club.

The Giants are going so far as to market McIlroy’s pitching debut as the highlight of their Irish Heritage Night according to the Irish Times.

Baseball fans who purchase the special event tickets will receive a limited-edition McIlroy bobblehead with the golfer sported out in Giants colours according to the paper.

“I’ve seen it,” McIlroy told the Irish Times of the promotional Bobblehead.

“And I think it might be a little better looking than me, which is nice. I’ve got a few friends coming over to San Francisco, so it will be a nice night out on a Tuesday night to take my mind away from the golf a little bit and have some fun.

“Obviously, throwing the first pitch at a baseball game is something I’ve never done before. I just need to start practising. I don’t want to make a fool of myself.”
