There will be 'Rory fever' in this year's British Open. Royal St George's will be the Irish golf ace's first tournament since he won by an outstanding eight shots at Congressional, and with a score not seen before in 110 previous stagings.

So clearly big things are now expected of Europe's youngest major champion since 1872, but it would wise for the public to allow his talent some scope.

'With success comes expectation. I know expectations on me are pretty high now, but I expect big things of myself any way,' McIlroy told Fox Sports recently.

'As long as I keep committed and dedicated, I don't see any reason why I won't handle it well. I always wanted to believe that I could win a major, but until you do you never know. If I can keep this form up all summer I have a good chance at the next two majors.'
