Rory McIlroy has issued a pre-Masters battle cry as he bids to win the Valero Texas Open ahead of his return to Augusta.

The world number two believes he can still win the last tournament before the Masters despite trailing leader Billy Horschel by four shots.

McIlroy only entered the Texas Open at the last minute to try and find some form before his bid to win a third Major on Thursday.

He has hit form in Texas and shot a one-under-par 71 in San Antonio on Saturday. American Horschel retained his two-shot overnight lead, reports Sporting Life.

Now six under for the tournament going into the final round and tied for fourth place, McIlroy believes he can win on Sunday.

McIlroy said on the PGA Tour website: “For the most part it was just about trying to play smart ... and give yourself as many chances as you can.

“It was tough. I probably should have been a couple better but it’s still a solid round and I still have a chance heading into tomorrow.

“I felt yesterday was really good. Today was not quite as good but the wind made it tough to score. I feel like there’s a low one in me for sure.”

Dubliner Padraig Harrington, a three time Major winner is in a group of five on five under after a third round 70.

Offaly’s Shane Lowry is tied in 17th, eight shots off the pace, after also hitting 72 on Saturday.
