Robbie Keane has hit the top of the league in America – and got one over on French World Cup cheat Thierry Henry.

New figures released on Monday show that Keane is now the highest earner in the MLS with a salary of $4million at the LA Galaxy.

He has moved ahead of Henry in the money league and tops the rankings after David Beckham’s move to Paris.

In reality Keane earns even more than the figure released by the MLS Players’ Union on Monday as that is just his base figure and doesn’t include sponsorship or bonuses.

Red Bill striker Henry, whose Hand of God goal cheated Ireland in the 2010 World Cup play-offs, has seen his salary fall to $3.75 million from $5 million a season ago.

Yahoo sports says that Henry’s guaranteed compensation, which takes into account guaranteed bonuses annualized over the course of a player’s contract, is a league-high $4.35 million. Keane’s guaranteed compensation is a shade less at $4,333,333.33.

Yahoo reports that Keane and Henry are two of eight players in the league making seven figures in base salary. The others are Henry’s teammate Tim Cahill ($3.5 million); Keane’s teammate Landon Donovan ($2.5 million); Seattle Sounders new signing Obafemi Martins ($1.6 million); injured Toronto FC striker Danny Koevermans ($1.25 million); Vancouver Whitecaps forward Kenny Miller ($1,114,992) and Montreal Impact striker Marco Di Vaio ($1,000,008).
