Padraig Harrington wins the Iskandar Johor Open

Three-time major winner Padraig Harrington has ended his drought of victories with a three-stroke win at the Iskandar Johor Open on Sunday.

The win comes after team victory at the Ryder Cup, where Harrington, who had not won a competition in two years – with the last win being his 2008 US PGA Championship victory – was a controversial selection by team captain Colin Montgomerie.

The Irishman’s form seems to be improving, however, as he started the day with a 5-stroke lead and cruised to a three-under-par finish at the Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club.

Harrington was followed by South Korea’s Noh Seung-yul in second on a seven-under 65 and Chinese Tapei’s Lin Wen-tang on 68.

The win gives Harrington a cheque for $198,125  but, more importantly, puts him back in the winners’ enclosure.

"Two years is a long time, especially when you're reminded most weeks you play. It's nice and very important for me to win. It's somewhat a monkey off your back," he said.

"Winning is a habit. Every time you win, it is important but when you haven't won for a while it does add a bit more emphasis to it. It makes it all the more memorable."
