Although up until now the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have been an independent team who never played in the conference championships Coach Brian Kelly wouldn’t rule it would while being interviewed on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Wednesday.

In his second year as coach of the Indiana team there may simply be a necessity. He said “You can't rule out anything with college football…We have to be prepared for anything."

He was hinting at the fact that if football keeps moving forward the way it’s going towards the 16-team superconference Notre Dame may have to join with the BCS conference.

The superconference is not a reality however the Pac 10 almost made it happen last summer. The conference was said to get Big 12 and Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Colorado. In the end they just added Colorado and Utah.

However it acted as a wake up call to those who think that college football is just sticking to the status quo.

Kelly commented "It's only going to continue to go in this route…As networks pop up and things change, I think you gotta be aware of those things."
