Three days following running back Elijah Hood’s commitment to Notre Dame, the Irish secured another valuable addition in six-foot-five offensive guard Quenton Nelson out of New Jersey. Nelson plays for Red Bank Catholic and is currently ranked by ESPN as the 11th best prospect from New Jersey as well as the 19th best offensive guard in the country.
ESPN reports the Nelson gave his commitment to head coach Brian Kelly over the phone during the one allowed conversation during the spring evaluation period.
After Nelson joined the Irish, the Notre Dame 2014 recruiting class became ranked 9th overall in the country. Nelson and Hood join other four star recruits in Andrew Trumbetti, Jay Hayes, Greer Martini, Sam Mustipher, Justin Brent and three star recruits Nic Weishar and Jimmy Byrne.
Nelson's mother Maryellen reportedly said, "He's really thrilled. We're so happy that he committed to a great school like Notre Dame. He's wearing his Notre Dame hat and shirt right now."
The Bleacher Report said that the Irish have prioritized recruiting linebacker Raekwon McMillan, wide receiver Malachi Dupre, offensive guard Braden Smith, tight end Tyler Luatua, and defensive end Andrew Williams. Both McMillan and Dupre are considered elite prospects and the Irish have a slim chance of actually getting a commitment out of either. Smith and Luatua have shown some interest in Notre Dame and Williams was a former high school teammate with Isaac Rochell, who joined the Irish last year.
