The facile victory over Western Michigan is the turning point in the Notre Dame season.

The kind of disaster season that beckoned after the 1-3 start is now banished forever.

In other words, a season like the 2007 3-9 season under Charlie Weiss is now an empty threat.

Given that Michigan State, who barely beat the Irish, are now 7-0 and a possible BCS bowl team, this Notre Dame side is looking better and better in retrospect.

Brian Kelly's words at half-time woke up the echoes in his slumbering team. the second half was classic Notre Dame power football.

Clearly, after a spectacular start , Kelly felt the team were badly underestimating Western Michigan and he knocked that over confidence out of them

Also the display of Michael Floyd, (pictured), today was finally the kind of game we had come to expect from him when Jimmy Clausen was around.

Expect him to be the key cog in the Irish offense for the rest of the season.

It was fitting that Clausen was on the sidelines to see his former star receiver have a big day.

The other important point is now that they are 4-3 and with some easy games ahead they are definitely bowl bound.

As Coach Brian Kelly said after the game, going to 4-3 after starting 1-3 is a huge breakthrough for this team, one that will instill confidence in the weeks ahead.

Navy will be ready to have the Irish walk the gangplank next week but I really can't see them stopping this Notre Dame juggernaut.

As they pass the midway point in the season I predict the Irish can crack the Top 25 by season's end.
