The first half of this intermediate football game was completely dominated by Long Island Gaels.

They had the first four points of the game, with Darren Moore getting three from a free and play. He was showing devastating form in front of goal, and the room the 13-a-side rule was giving him.

Sligo’s only point of the half came in the 13th minute when Mike Mangan fired over. It was followed by three further Moore points, the second of which was exceptional.

Garth Moore received the ball on the right wing and hit a speculative pass down the right side. Darren snagged the ball and drove a right footed shot over the lathe from about two yards from the sideline, 40 yards out.

The winners had six further scores as the half closed out with a cracking goal coming from the boot of Paul McDaid. It left the side with an unreachable lead of 1-12 to 0-1.

The second half was five minutes long as it was called early. Long Island added to their total with a Paul Galligan goal and points from McDaid and Byrne.
