Reigning All-Ireland champions Donegal were dethroned in impressive style yesterday as Mayo put in the performance of the Championship in a mammoth 4-17 to 1-10 victory at Croke Park.

Man of the match Aidan O’Shea’s domination of midfield and relentless energy was one of the highlights of a spectacular performance by the Connacht champions.

But Cavan’s first-ever All-Ireland SFC quarter-final appearance ended in heartbreak following a six-point loss to Kerry at GAA headquarters.

The Kingdom were always in control as Eamon Fitzmaurice’s players cruised into the semis with a 0-15 to 0-9 victory.

On Saturday Dublin booked their place in the semis with a 1-16 to 0-14 win over Cork at Croke Park.

Cork manager Conor Counihan stepped down immediately after the game, with many feeling the side had under-achieved since winning the All-Ireland in 2010.

And Tyrone booked their place in the last four after edging out Ulster neighbours Monaghan by 0-14 to 0-12.

Both teams finished with 14 men in an attritional battle at Croke Park, with Tyrone doing just enough to make it through to their first semi-final since 2009.
