Seanie Monaghan (13-0, 8 KOs) will fight Romaro Johnson (11-6-1, 6 KOs) this Thursday night at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City for the WBC Continental Americas Light Heavyweight title in a contest scheduled for 10 rounds.

Monaghan, 30, has had a busy two years as a pro, and this fight marks the first time he is fighting in the main event, the first time he is fighting for a professional belt and the first time he is fighting in a ten-rounder.

The Long Beach, Long Island native has left nothing to chance and has endured a grueling training camp to prepare for the fight, which will headline the third Broadway Boxing card of the year.

"I feel great.  It was my toughest camp yet, but it was also my best camp," he told the Irish Voice on Monday night.

"I was sparring with Curtis Stevens and Will Rosinsky, and I also did some work with Denis Douglin."

Johnson, 37, is somewhat of a journeyman opponent at this stage of his career. He has lost his last four fights and was last in the squared circle in March, when Monaghan’s sparring partner Curtis Stevens defeated him by first round TKO.

Monaghan was last in action on March 17 when he had a solid unanimous decision win over Eric Watkins.  Though he was not impressed by his performance that night, he aims to put on a show this week.

"This is my first main event. I want to make it entertaining but I also want to make a statement," he said.

The addition of a belt into the mix has given Monaghan that extra incentive to deliver a convincing display for his fans, who are expected to turn up in droves to support him this week.

"It is quite an important belt. If I win it will move me right up the rankings,” he said.

Broadway Boxing is promoted by DiBella Entertainment, and at a recent press conference director of public relations Kevin Rooney, Jr. explained why Monaghan was topping their bill.

"This is Seanie's first main event and for everyone who has had the opportunity to see Seanie fight, you know every time he steps into that ring that you are going to see a helluva fight," he said.

"Seanie is a throwback fighter.  He has no fear inside him, he presses the action and he loves to mix it up.  He continues to improve every time he steps in that ring, and we believe that this will be the first of many DBE cards that Seanie will headline in the future."
