Donegal GAA fans have received a major boost just weeks after their reign as All-Ireland champions ended – Jim McGuinness is to take charge again next season.

The All-Ireland winning boss will sign up for another term when he meets with County Board officials in the coming days.

His employers Celtic, who have promoted McGuinness in his role as a sports psychologist with the club, have backed his plans to remain for another year.

Reports in the Irish media say McGuinness discussed his desire to keep the Donegal job with Celtic boss Neil Lennon.

He will now look to rebuild his Donegal squad after their All-Ireland reign was ended brutally by Mayo in the quarter-finals earlier this month.

McGuinness’s track record with the county is impressive and includes two Ulster titles as well as the 2012 All-Ireland victory.

The Donegal manager will ask the County Board to restructure their club championship fixtures to facilitate his team more next season according to the reports.
