The Jets faced trouble in the second quarter when Jeremy Kerley let Washington’s Perry Riley recover at the Jets' 18.
Immediately Washington got a 23-yard field goal after that unfortunate flub.
Kerley had returned to the game on Sunday after a knee injury that had sidelined him for the past two games, only to witness the Jets use Jim Leonhard on punt returns. Leonhard's 14-yard return to the Washington 47 in the third quarter later helped set up a 51-yard field goal by Nick Folk.
'We have to find a way to get it done,' beleaguered Jets coach Rex Ryan told North Jersey. 'Leave Jimmy out there and he’ll catch it in a hurricane. I’m fine with that.'
Meanwhile Joe McKnight came out of the game after suffering a hyperextended right elbow while being tackled in the third quarter.
McKnight had an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of his injury, although he said he still hopes he can play against Kansas City on Sunday.
'It’s pretty sore right now,' McKnight said. 'I really can’t extend it all the way.'
