Irish play part in 2010 World Cup as ESPN picks U2 for promos

This must be some weird kinda karma for Irish soccer fans.

We're not going to South Africa for the World Cup thanks to that chump Thierry Henry (above) but we're all over the promos for the ESPN coverage courtesy of U2.

Yup! That's right! There will be no escaping the Irish foursome as ESPN are using five of their songs to plug the games.

Two ads are already on the air and the ads which will run through the World Cup itself will feature footage from U2's Pasadena concert.

The five songs are:

"Where the Streets Have No Name" (with the Soweto Gospel Choir)
"Magnificent").
"Out of Control" - weyhey! You rarely hear this song on the radio anymore
"Desire"
"City of Blinding Lights."
