Katie Taylor could be up against the Russian boxer Sofya Ochigava in Dublin if the Irish Amateur Boxing Association’s (IABA ) bid for the 2013 European Elite Women’s Championships is successful.

Ochigava was a defeated by Taylor in the 2011 European Final in Rotterdam and again in both the 2012 World Championship final in China and of course in August’s Olympic Games gold medal decider at the ExCeL Centre in London.

This summer in London, Taylor beat Ochigava in the 60kg Women’s Boxing final, bringing home a gold medal to Bray and cementing her status as a sporting hero in Ireland.

Currently, the 2013 European Elite Women’s Championships are set to be held in Rotterdam in Holland. The Irish are contesting this as they, like the Dutch, are also celebrating their centenary in 2013.

If the Irish bid is successful, the competition will be staged at CityWest Hotel & Conference Centre where the 2011 European Youth Championships were held.

The result of their bid will be announced next month.
