Hannah Kearney picked up a gold medal today when she clocked 27.86 seconds, bringing the US its first win of the Vancouver Games.

The 23-year-old girl from New Hampshire beat Canadian Jenn Heil, robbing her of getting the first gold for Canada, the Huffington Post reported.

Kearney’s performance included a well-executed a back flip on her top jump and a 360-degree spin on her second.

Her showing was far better than at the last Winter Olympics in Italy four years ago when she came in 22nd, despite being one of the favorites.

This year she was favorite too, but she won.

Earlier in the week she sounded confident. "My goal is to win a gold medal," she told News 9 in new Hampshire . "I'm not here to lose, that's for sure.”
