Leinster fly-half Felipe Contepomi has agreed to join Toulon on a four-year deal and will move to France at the end of the current season.
The Argentina international is a firm favourite amongst the supporters of the reigning Magners League champions and has established himself as a key player for the team.
With over 110 appearances already racked up and a points tally that has gone beyond the 1,000 mark, Contepomi was often the match winner at the RDS, whether he was playing at fly-half or at centre.
He had long stated that he wanted to return to his native country when he retired playing, but now he has agreed to take on a new challenge with a different club.
"This is one of the hardest decisions that I have ever had to make in my career," said Contepomi.
"I spoke with my family about it at length, but I feel that the end of this season is the best time to make a new start. I have played some of the best years of my career with Leinster. They are the team that I have also played with the longest in my career.
"We have three important months left in the season and my sole intention now is to do my best to try to help to win the Heineken Cup and retain the Magners League title for the club.
"It has been an incredible journey and I'd like to finish it on a high."
Leinster head coach Michael Cheika was quick to pay tribute to Contepomi following his announcement of a decision that will end a successful spell with the Irish province.
"Felipe has been an unbelievable asset to the club and he's going to be sadly missed," said Cheika.
"He has been a great support for us at all levels and played an important role in the transition of the club into a strong professional organisation."
