Graeme McDowell was back in the winner’s enclosure again on Sunday – for the third time in 2013.
The Florida based Ulsterman won the prestigious French Open in Paris just a week after missing the cut at his national championships in Ireland.

Incredibly has either claimed a victory or missed the cut in his last eight events.

He carded a closing round 67 at Le Golf National to finish nine under par, as the challenge of South Africa’s Richard Sterne collapsed.

And the luck of the Irish was on McDowell’s side as he pulled his tee shot on the 16th, but saw the ball take a lucky bounce away from the heavy rough and kick 90 degrees right before his putt sneaked in.

McDowell admitted: “It’s been a funny year. My game has not felt far away most weeks but I have missed a lot more cuts than normal and missing cuts hurts.

“It made me more hungry to want to be in positions like I was this afternoon.”
