Northern Irish player, Graeme McDowell, along with Martin Kaymer from Germany, have been named the joint 2010 European Tour Golfer of the Year. This is the first time since 1985 that the award have been given to joint winners.

Kamyer and McDowell both won major championships for the first time this year and they were both on the European Ryder Cup team.

McDowell won the U.S. Open and also holed the put to secure Europe’s win at the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor, in Wales.

Kaymer won the PGA Championship, defeating McDowell to top the money list on the tour. Kaymer is also ranked third in the world behind England’s Lee Westwood and Tiger Woods of the U.S.

McDowell said the award is “the icing on the cake on what has been a very special year for myself, Martin and everyone involved in European golf.” Kaymer agreed saying this “This has been a truly great year for me and winning this award is the perfect ending.”
