Cork have their sights set on All-Ireland champions Kilkenny according to selector Kieran Kingston after they showed real character to snatch a 2-12 to 2-12 draw against Galway in the NHL Division 1A game in Salthill last Sunday.

Cork can now book a semifinal place this weekend.  “It is set up for a super Sunday now, which is great. Kilkenny want the points, we need the points and a win there or getting something out of it would be fantastic for us,” Kingston said.

“The players showed great character in Galway and the changes we made worked well for us.

“I thought Cian McCarthy and the half forward line won a huge amount of ball in the second half playing into the wind. Winning possession in the air was critical for us.”

Galway missed chances galore and paid the price according to manager Anthony Cunningham as his side remained bottom of the table.

“If you came to me midway through the second half, it looked like we were in the driving seat,” Cunningham said.

“We were disappointed with our finish. I think we lacked a bit of composure and there was a lack of concentration to finish off the game. Any team will catch you on that and Cork did. They’ll be delighted with their comeback and we’d be disappointed we didn’t finish the game.”
