Notre Dame are heading to the historic Fenway Park in Boston – and not Dublin – for their 2015 Shamrock Series game with Boston College.

The world famous baseball stadium will host the big game on November 21st 2015 with the fixture carried live on NBC.

The Fenway game is the latest announcement in Notre Dame’s Shamrock Series of off-site home game.

Businessmen in Dublin had tendered to bring Notre Dame back to the Irish capital in 2015 after the success of their recent game with Navy at the Aviva Stadium.

Croke Park will host the Florida State-Penn University game in August, a match that is worth millions to the Irish economy.

The Boston game will be a homecoming for Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly, a native of Everett who played at St. John’s Prep and Assumption before becoming a coach.

Boston mayor Thomas M. Menino said: “The City of Boston will be ready to welcome Fighting Irish and Eagles fans alike when Fenway brings this historic rivalry to one of our most beloved landmarks in 2015.

“I’m looking forward to a memorable weekend that puts Boston, and all the great things our city has to offer, in the national spotlight.”

The website Boston.com reports that game between the Fighting Irish and Eagles will be the first football game at Fenway Park since Dec. 1, 1968 when the Patriots played their last game at the ballpark after five years at Fenway.

Boston College and Notre Dame will also face each other at Fenway next month in a hockey game as part of Frozen Fenway 2014, a two-week series of hockey, skating, and sledding events.
