Elsom is the top man for Leinster

Rocky Elsom has been named Leinster's Player of the Year.

The Australian back row joined the Irish province just last summer but has been a virtual ever-present for Michael Cheika's side with 20 starts and six tries to date.

Elsom was presented with his award on Saturday evening, and revealed that he never expected to enjoy life in Dublin as much as he has.
"I have to thank the team for what has been such a great year," he said. "I've had a lot of support from the team and the coaching staff and it has been really obvious to me how much of an impact they've had on my season.

"In particular I would like to thank Michael Cheika for getting me over here in the first place, because it took a hell of a long time and a lot of work, so I appreciated that effort.

"I liked Dublin a lot before I came to Leinster, but I didn't expect to have enjoyed it as much as I have and I would say the main reason for that is that I've really liked being around the team.

"I have felt privileged to have come to a side that has such passionate and dependable supporters. It has made my time here that much more enjoyable and I cannot thank them enough."

Prop Cian Healy was named Young Player of the Year, while the departing Felipe Contepomi was presented with the OLSC Leinster Legend Award on behalf of the club's supporters.
