Shay Given's season is over after he dislocated his left shoulder while making a save for Manchester City against Arsenal on Saturday.

The big Donegal man saved smartly from a long range effort from Diaby in the second half of the scoreless draw, but fell awkwardly on his left shoulder as he did so and eventually left the field in some distress.

The injury comes as a blow to both Manchester City, who are pushing hard for fourth place and the final Champions League spot, and Ireland, who have some end of year friendlies lined up against Paraguay and Algeria on May 25 and 28 respectively at Dublin's RDS.

Given will see a specialist early this week to assess how serious the damage is, but the keeper has injured the same shoulder before, and the blue half of Manchester, as well as Irish fans, will hope the stopper will not be out of action for too long.
