The week long International Eucharist Congress will draw thousands of pilgrims to Dublin from June 10th – the day before Ireland’s opening Euro 2012 game against Croatia.

Anxious to marry their spiritual needs with the nation’s devotion to Trapattoni and his side, Church bosses have opted to show Ireland’s games live on big screens at the RDS.

Secretary General Fr Kevin Doran said: “Wouldn’t it be interesting to celebrate Mass in the RDS arena and then stay on to watch the match on the big screen?

“We even have an Austrian bishop offering a workshop on ‘communion and sport’.”
